Michelin Pilot Road 2 vs Dunlop Roadsmart vs Maxxis Supermaxx
 

I have only been riding for a year and have no experience with bike tyres.

I use the SV to commute (very short commute, 7 mile round trip each day) so looking for an all weather tyre.

I am looking at the following:
Michelin Pilot Road 2
Dunlop Roadsmart
Maxxis Supermaxx

Or open to similar suggestions.

I have found them all the above for around £200 for the pair on eBay.

I found Michelin Pilot Road 1's for £150 on eBay but am told by a mate that the Michelin Pilot Road 2's are much better and worth the extra £50.

I have read good reviews on all of the above so am finding it hard to choose.

you forgot the Avon Storms which are a cracking tyre then you have the PR3's which are supposed to be superb in wet weather.

TBH i'm thinking of switching from the Storms to the PR2's next time around.

And the Bridgestone bt023 it would seem...

So many tyres for similar money I have absolutely no idea what to go for!

i'm using conti road attacks and seem to be an excellent all round tyre

Mate, all those tyres are good. I've ridden on those Maxxis and Dunlops on the roads and they were equally good in the dry.

Of the two I found the Dunlops better in the rain.

As Bibio says PR3's are great in the wet. I've ridden on the track in the rain with PR3's and they were very very good.

Won't be changing my own tyres, just taking these somewhere to get them fitted.

I could also phone around a couple of local places but wanted your opinions first :)

As you say, they'll probably all do perfectly for me, may just give the roadsmarts a try!

I've had PR2's since last May and they're awesome! A couple of tyre places advised me to choose them over the BT023's.

I can't say what the others are like due to only using the PR2's, but I would highly recommend them :)

I swear by the Bridgestone BT-023.... They offer 95% grip of the Dunlop SPORTsmart Qualifier (D209 Qualifier) (Which is incredible grip btw) but they also offer 90% in the wet. I also had 9000 miles out of my rear tyre.

I hear that michelins need to be kept within 0.5 PSI for optimum wear/grip which is made hard in winter what with temperature cycles of a tyre) but this is hear say so I'm sure someone who keeps up on this stuff will be able to inform your more accurately...

You will NOT be dissapointed with the BT-023.. I put £10 on it
