Fitting Acewell clocks - instrument connections?
 

Hi All,

Just in the process of stripping down my K2 650S to give it a bit of an image change.

I've tracked back the Live, Earth, Indicators, Headlight, Side Light, Neutral light, Oil Pressure light on the connectors shown.

But struggling with:

Engine temp light
Speed sensor
Ignition signal for Rev Counter

I'm fitting an Acewell unit so would be good to know if the standard speed sensor / ignition signal can be used for this. Anyone done it before?

I would ask acewell as they will probably have all the answers you need without the possibility of someone on here with no knowledge/experience giving you false or incorrect info that could damage your bike?

Electrics are a funny thing and can cause very expensive problems on newer bikes, you would only know you fried the ECU 2 seconds after its too late

Thanks David, you're probably right......

However, being one not to read instructions etc, I think I have sorted this with a bit of multimeter tracing, over the weekend.

No real risk to the ECU as it's a carbed bike and the inputs only come from the ignition coil and the Hall Effect Sensor on the front wheel. SO only real risk would be to the Acewell unit if I messed up.

The rev feed from the coil was a bit noisy when I first tried it so I had to put a resister in series to smooth it out.

The Speedo I think I have sorted but once I have checked the accuracy I'll post what I have found.

I found the revs a bit erratic - as you say fitting the resistor helps. I was still getting a double reading at times though. I think it was picking up a double signal as the loom runs pretty close to the front HT lead. I moved the Acewell wire to run along the top of the loom and that seemed to cure it.

I didn't use the SV speedo sensor as I've got a GSXR front end on my bike so can't help there I'm afraid.

If your clocks have got a fuel guage I've got a little wiring diagram for a relay to make it (kind of) work with the SV sender. Let me know if you want it.

I've got all my notes somewhere from when I installed my Acewell if you need anything else, but it sounds like you've already got a good idea of what's what.

That would be fantastic - I was trying to think of a way to "boost" the thermistor resistance to make the fuel meter register some change when the fuel hit the low mark. You'll save me a job and no doubt a bit of trial and error! Thanks.

Here's the diagram for the fuel sender relay. It was done by D'Ecosse and not by me and can therefore be trusted to work without letting all your bike's magic electric smoke out :D. Hope it's of some use;

He wasn't sure if High resistance meant high or low level on the gauge. If I remember correctly, he guessed wrong and the resistors should actually be reversed. 10 ohms goes to pin 87 and 100 ohms goes to pin 87a (the size of these resistors might vary between different models of clocks but the Acewell instructions should tell you what resistance your particular fuel gauge reads at)

With this fitted your fuel gauge is either on "full" or "empty" - there's no gradual decrease.

Hi all, Im sorting out my low fuel light on my DB02R clocks attached to a curvy SV that has never worked (always illuminated no matter what level the fuel is).

Will the circuit diagram drive a 12v LED when the fuel is low?

What type of relay do I need to use?
