SV was reversed into :(

On Friday night i went to go get a chinese, while the bike was parked up a woman reversed into my SV and carried on reversing pushing the front wheel into a wall and squshing the bike up a bit before it fell on it's right side damaging indicator, tank, bars, mirror, radiator is leaking, rear fairing is badly scratched and the exhaust is badly dented.

The whole thing was witnessed by an off duty Police Officer and a member of the public, she admitted fault at the scene and wanted to sort it outside of insurance but i'm determined to go through insurance with it.

The police officer reported it to the police and i heard him say that she admitted liability. I have his name and contact details same with the other witnesses, have passed it onto the insurance company and the bike is due to be collected this week.

I'm pretty sure they will write it off, just wondering what i can expect to get in comp for it. It's an 53 Naked. Been looking around at prices for local bikes and cheapest i can find a naked 650 SV is £2100 :(

With that amount of damage, 'the insurance' route was definitely the way to go....unless someone was prepared to walk to the cash point and withdraw a whole lot of cash to hand over .

Personally, I tend not to worry about the amount that might be offered by an insurance...just wait and see. The Insurance company might just surprise you :)

I wouldn't pay £2100 for a K3 naked myself...meaning the more they offer, the more you'd have have left over for drugs, women and sex  :p

they should pay you the market value, i.e what it would cost to buy your bike.
Remember 2 things. Regardless of the bike being in the hands of the insurer it is STILL your bike up until you sign it over to them. Secondly, push to get as much as you can for your bike (if they write it off). Do not take their 1st offer (unless it is stonkingly good). As you have said, the next bike to buy would cost £2100 to replace it. Keep this market research to forward on to them to back up the value of your bike.

They will drag their heels over releasing the cheque. Expect it to take at least a month. So if you need a roadworthy bike ASAP then you'll have to harass and badger and nag them day in day out. When my car was written off I never got any of the stages complete (i.e. initial paper work, offer, pick-up of salvage, sending of cheque) done without me phoning them and pushing them.

Bad news there Chewie, I do hope that you manage to get it all sorted.

I had mine ran over a while back and the bike was sent to a company called Plantec for repair. From this experience I would not recommend them to anyone else. They even managed to mess up my paint and broke my plastics.

I wouldn't pay £2100 for a K3 Naked either, however looking through what is available near me at the moment be it Fazer 600 or SV's don't get much for £2,000. I'm pretty sure that i can't be any worse off after the accident so might take a little while but they'll have to pay it eventually, i will bug the hell out of them.

Thanks for the warning Jayne :)

I learnt this from my crash. Take the hire bike, the third party then tries to settle quicker as they are paying daily for your ride ;)
