Towing a trailer with a bike - legalities?
Out of interest whatare the weight limits for fitting trailers tio bikes? - Is it something like 33%? And is this of the unladen bike weight?
Anyone any experience or guidance on this? |
Re: Towing a trailer with a bike - legalities?
The towing motorcycle must exceed 125 cc engine capacity.
The trailer has an overall width not exceeding 1.00m The distance between the rear axle and the rearmost part of the trailer must not exceed 2.5m. The motorcycle must be clearly and indelibly marked with it’s kerbside weight. The trailer must be clearly and indelibly marked with it’s unladen weight. When the trailer is loaded it must weigh no more than 150 kilograms or two-thirds of the kerbside weight of the motorcycle - whichever is lighter. The UK speed limit is 60 mph on motorways and dual carriageways and 50 mph on all other roads unless a lesser limit is in force And check with your insurance fella! |

Unfortunately the above won't quite work with my plans, but hey ho... The trailer will be too long you see!

How do they attach to the bike, I have never seen a bike with a trailer.

It sounds mental, but where legality isn't an issue you can tow small "sleeper" caravans. Camping in the wilds of Tasmania I met a gent who was towing a half-tent caravan on the back of his old GL1500. He had a pretty much full sized bbq tucked away in there, too! |
