Motor industry regulatory body?
Hi all,
Anyone know what government body regulates the motor industry particular break down and recovery? Cheers |
Re: Motor industry regulatory body?
There's no statuatory government regulator as far as I know - just this self-policing one:

Re: Motor industry regulatory body?
You can also try the RMI if the business you've got an issue with is a member of it:

Might be worth investigating whether a breakdown policy you may be wanting to contest is a sort of insurance scheme that would be regulated by the insurance ombudsman.
What's occurring? |

Although the Motorcode scheme is voluntary, any breaches by a member and failure of to address the issue has significant implications for the business and the code itself. If the business fails to address a complaint in accordance with the code, they can lose their accreditation or membership. If the code administrators (should one exist) fail to oversee a members behaviour in this regard, the OFT can withdraw support for the code - although this is unlikely unless there are some major breaches or a fundamental failure of the scheme. First stop, code of practice and complaint. Second stop, ombudsman if regulated contract (but you will still have to make a complaint to the trader first). |

Re: Motor industry regulatory body?
this is regarding this I take it.
as an ex mechanic and knowing how this normally works i don't think you will get any resolve in your favor. if you take it from their point of view. you don't use the catch every day. they come and use it, it breaks. it's just bad luck. Unless you can determine that it was due to rough handling (this would be very difficult) then there is no chance unless they are very decent at "good will". I have had bonnet catches go on me and the owner has to pay for the repair. it's just bad luck. how much is it going to cost to repair ? do you feel this is worth your time it's going to take to deal with all comms you may need to deal with ?
