Re: Fairing repair
Wishful thinking, but assuming you don't want it painted then it shouldn't be too much.

Re: Fairing repair
I'd say nearer £40-£50 for the repair. You'll need to repaint the area afterwards too.

Re: Fairing repair
plastic welding is easy, can be done with cable ties and a high heat soldering iron, I've just done a front mudguard
could save yourself some money before taking it to the paint shop |
Re: Fairing repair?
well the fairing isn't in particularly great nick so i reckon an attempt with a soldering iron could do an option. wideboy u got any tips on how best to attempt this?

Not really .... its pretty simple
Only thing I can say is make sure your heat gun is a really hot one. I used a cheapo crap one (I think it was freebie with a load of solder from maplins) and although it worked it looked really messy so afterwards I used the iron like a filler knife and smoothed it all out and sanded it back then a skim of filler. Came out good in the end and I sprayed it on Sunday. ]Attachment 12004Attachment 12005 That was pre prep. Did the crack in the top also after hitting what can only be described as a flying brick at 80. It also took a trip up the front of the bike bouncing off the fairing, mirror and finally into my shoulder. The missing piece damage was the old disc lock. Sprayed a few more panels as well, trying to get the sv up together. If you've got the piece that broke off you could melt on cable ties from the underside like stitches and melt one in gently along the crack. That way it won't look too bad from the front and if the rest of the panel is a state it wouldnt stick out that much and probably not bother getting it sprayed. |
Re: Fairing repair?
that looks surprisingly good. ill hav a crack at this next weekend i reckon. ive got some mesh kicking about which i can maybe use with some cable ties as my welding sticks. chuck on some filler and see how it turns out

Re: Fairing repair?
You could heat up the mesh gently with a blow torch and push it into and across the joint from the back.
If that's not what you were getting at. |
