My phone / sat-nav mount.
 

Got a Samsung Galaxy SII last month and as the GPS iss much better than my previous phone, decided to get my finger out and get it mounted to the bike. Also got one of Bib's Gizmos so that was decided. Using NDrive on Android as a sat-nav, works good.

I bought a rather nice tough waterproof phone holder from Ultimate Addons, HERE is the kit I got for £40. Bit of a bargain, cos seperately would cost about £60. Really impressed with service and quality of the case, mount and hard wiring kit. The case has a foam liner to protect from from dropping, which also acts as a seal around the case to make it waterproof. I dont think it would last long submersed, but looks to be pretty weatherproof. The hard wiring plug seals nicely in, even comes with a little plug to seal opening when not charging. You can operate all of the side buttons whilst in the case, use touch screen and even take photo's (Just can't use flash)

Wired up to Bib's gizmo and put switch box under seat. Ran wiring down the side of the tank and brought it out between the tank mounting points. Covered the wires here with a bit of protection tubing stuff, looks like chinese finger trap!(Fited after picture taken) The plug into the phone comes with a little rubber cap that can be used, when not in use.

Thanks. Couldn't find a mounting system that suited me, so happy to fabricate one. Was only going to be a prototype, but came out nice enough to use!

Would really like to get google maps to work offline so I could put a route I wanted to ride in, not the shortest or fastest the software deciding! the google maps app on android wont let you put in waypoints or I cannot work out how!

do them in the house then make txt docs with the link and paste that into the browser. might work i have no idea :-)

I got a curvy model but Will that bracket fit a curvy? can you make another?

Hi, SIII refers to my Series 3 Land Rover truck cab!

I am using a Galaxy S2 with NDrive app as my satnav, app is free but cost me £6 for the UK map. Good satnav app & good customer services, had to use them when I changed phones, they transfer imei number to give access to maps from different phone.

Just made the bracket up from an air box bracket off of a Citreon Saxo VTR! Cut of excess and drilled holes, easy enough. Was going to be a prototype but works well enough and painted up looks quite neat, so will just use it.

Glad you feel inspired, get one of Bib's gizmo's to power it and therefore switches off with the ignition. :cool:

Nice little set up.
I offer a warning though with that case, I had one for my previous iphone.
It wasn't actually 100% waterproof, when riding on the AR11 in the heavy rain we stopped at a Tesco when I noticed the phone had gotten slightly wet.
In a sad twist of ill fated irony I decided to then put the phone in my pocket instead of back in the holder... wasnt a waterproof jacket either = phone died.

Thanks, live in Scotland - so will get weather tested pretty soon!

Bib's - tried to open a google map route using my maps app on phone. Worked great - just ignored all the detours i had put in and just set shortest / quickest route! Back to the drawing board on this one. I guess I'll just have to set an itinery on the sat-nav app and run thru them that way to ensure I go the route I want to go.
