Flat battery after several starts.
I am new to the bike world and I just ran into an issue. I woke up and started my bike to ride to work and it started fine. I turned it off because I needed to lock the door. It had been running for about 10-15 minutes prior to me turning it off. I used the kill switch and took the key out. I then came back to the bike and started ti once again. It turned on fine. I then had to turn it off again because I left my work hat. I just turned the key off this time and got off.
I returned to the bike and all I got was a clicking sound coming from the starter relay and nothing else. Lights are fine and it is a brand new battery. I then just hopped in my car and went to work. Came home and it is doing the same thing. Today I tried to bump start it but nothing happened. It sound like it wanted to start but nothing. I cleaned the battery connections and also the battery connection to the starter relay as well. I need help ASAP. It misted and had lots of fog the night before. I have a SV650s Naked. I really need my bike back wworking ANY HELP GUYS. |
Re: Starting Problem
Charge the battery - it's flat.
This could be because of a problem, or it could be that the battery was just a bit low and repeated starting without running it for long has taken more out of the battery than the short run time could put back. Probably worth doing a quick charging check when you get it running. |
Re: Flat battery after several starts.
Before you touch the bike take a battery voltage reading which will give you the state of charge, particularly if it has been stood all day.
12.6v is charged, 12.2 is 50% and below 12v its flat. Then charge it up, but if its more than say 4 years old be ready to buy another new one if you must have that bike start every morning during the winter. Pete |
Re: Flat battery after several starts.
Probably just old and tired, I had this problem with mine. I left the parking light on by accident and it ran it flat, the alarm then went off and wouldn't stay off...charged it and it'd die as soon as I tried to turn the bike over. Ended up buying the Yuasa battery which has been super duper reliable :) Hopefully it's nothing though, don't forget if you've had it sat for fifteen minutes, the engine's ticking over but the battery isn't being charged...so the lights and charge to the spark plug are sapping power (I might of made that latter bit up but sure I remember reading it somewhere)

Come on Pete7 and 650, Glover2513 stated that it was a BRAND NEW battery

Re: Flat battery after several starts.
Faulty brand new battery or charging circuit faulty? or possibly starter motor (based upon sudden non starting?)
Jump start it off a car, let it run and test voltage running it should be around 14v, dropping to 12-13v when turned off. Or remove battery and see if it charges properly and then try the above. You can check starter by running jump leads to -earth and + to the starter motor terminal... or bang it with a mallet while trying to start the bike sometimes works. |

Means nothing, could of been defective from purchase. |
Re: Flat battery after several starts.
Update. Had a 11 on the voltage and zero charge. He charged it and had a steady 12.6. Hooked it back it up and still nothing. Same issue. Clicking in the starter relay.
