Aftermarket exhaust can and insurance?

Hey, if I installed a new end can on my bike and it has no e markings, and I told the insurance comany. Would they ask for a e mark number or anything? P.s its a viper race can with no baffles:D:D

They would probably charge you for the privilege of the declared mod.

No BS/e-mark is a failure to abide by C&U / European type approval regs. Most cops are too thick to know the law but upset one who does and you could get a ticket.

and before anyone says that MOT is ok, VOSA rules do not mean compliant with C&U.

If Its going to improve performance it will cost more.
But your have to sort out its fueling to realise any small increase.
ps
Make sure thers no
"Not for road use" markings on it.
If there are your be in hot water...

Re: insurance question

Declared the exhaust on my sons SV with no increase on premium. It's best to declare mods no matter how small, don't give the insurance company a way out of paying in the event of a claim.

+1

In a previous life I have thrown out insurance claims when I have found the vehicle not to be as declared.

The nuts thing about an after market can is that it will actually cost the insurance company less to replace than a standard can. So only a poor company should charge for an non performance enhancing can.

However, my experience is that it is not really the company that is charging. it is a poor broker grabbing a mid term change fee.

Re: insurance question

Hastings gave me 3 mods for no increase in premium ,But as the exhust didn't increases Hp just noise they didn't worry.
Mind you they didnt worry about gearing from S to N ,
That made it accelerate better???

Ok thank you all, it doesn't not for road use on it, neither does it have a e mark. What atchually is a e mark? And will I be asked to prove it has one to the insurancecompany, like read a number or something ?

Re: insurance question

"e" Mark is a euro conformity reg.
if you have one it meets a minimum level of quality.
ie exhaust is noise .
The e-mark is an EU-wide piece of legislation, and an equivalent United Nations standard known as the "E-mark" is applied in non-EU countries. In the UK, Section 60 of the Road Traffic Construction .The UK body responsible for regulating e-marking is the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA)
but don't belive all you read...

Re: insurance question

you can only call or mail them and see what a particular agent wants .
3 times I have declared exhausts all they asked was"Does it increase performance".
