Cutting out when coming to a stop. SV650S L1

Hi All, recently over the past few days my SV has been cutting out when slowing down to a stop.

SV650S 2011 L1

Yoshimura RS-3 Full System
Power Commander V
K&N Air Filter
33bhp ECU Restriction
Aftermarket levers from eBay (Hong Kong)

If I'm riding at slow speed in traffic and stop it idles just over 1k and doesn't cut out, if I'm riding normally or motorway and I pull the clutch in as I come to a stop the idle drops just under 1k and it cuts out.

The bike had a Yoshimura RS-3 when I bought it just before Christmas, about 2-3 weeks ago I removed the baffle but the problem has only been happening over the last few days, not sure if this has anything to do with it.

:(

Just over 1000rpm or 1200, 1300 rpm or... something else?

If it is really just over 1000rpm - 1003 rpm perhaps - then it's too low. Set the tickover right and see what happens.

Yup. Turn ya tickover up. Mine sits at 1400rpm, recommend at least 1200rpm. :-)

It idles normally around 1200-1300n haven't really noticed it that much.

Went into the garage today to ask about it and they said it's because I've got after maket levers on so its not operating the clutch switch properly and not telling the bike if its in gear or not.

I'm assuming that they're right and I should put the standard levers back on?

that I am afraid to say is the biggest load of cobblers, never go back there again if they say stuff like that.

The purpose of the clutch switch is limited to the starting circuits. You cannot engage the starter unless the clutch switch is closed. It has bugger all to do with running engines.

As far as detecting if it is in gear, there are two purposes for that. Only one would cut the engine and that is if the side stand was down. and the other being the ignition advance gear detection system. So Again they are talking cobblers saying the clutch switch is linked to gear selection.

Oh well that sorts that, I might change them anyway just to see if anything changes, I took the baffle out weeks ago and the problems only been here for a few days so not sure if that has anything to do with it, bikes only got 3,500 miles so I'm hoping its not bust all ready :(

Is the clutch dragging badly?

I stand to be corrected but I believe that there is a difference to the running map when the clutch is pulled in, this certainly affects the SV1000, and I think the 650. Some people have reported a change to the mapping with the clutch switch bypassed. None the less, the curvy has no such mechanism and manages not to stall out.

This is certainly worth investigation.

I would say that 1,200 rpm is a little low, and I'd try to move that up a bit and see if the problem goes away, I'd be aiming for more like 1,500 rpm.

Ok, I admit my knowledge and hence glib statement is based on the only SV I owned which was indeed a curvy. So I have had a quick look at on line wiring diagrams.

Yes there is a T in the line between the starter solenoid and the clutch switch that in turn connects to the ECM. So yes it looks like on pointies the ecm can indeed detect that the clutch has been pulled in. However I would doubt this actually does have an effect on the fuel mapping.

Re: Cutting out when coming to a stop.

Clutch switch connects to FI system on Pointies. When it's very cold pulling and releasing the clutch lever makes the tickover go up and down a few hundred RPM.

It is possible that ill fitting levers could not be operating the switch correctly.

OP: You've written an enquiry about an SV, but not in the SV section, if you had done so you may have seen this: Read me!, noting point 1 specifically.
