Are councils overgritting the roads?

Hey all
I don't know if it's just in this part of the country, but the councils seem to be using far too much grit on the roads at the moment. I mean seriously, I could build a sandcastle with all the excess grit at the sides of the road right now. Now for car drivers it's probably not even noticeable, but for us bikers it really is satan dust. Now don't get me wrong, I would rather have a bit of grit than patches of black ice, but I think there is far too much being used at the moment. So, what do you guys think?

I think the problem is that it's been pretty dry recently. Normally we'd have some rain to wash away all the old skank before they put new stuff down, but they're just gritting on top of old stuff right now. Keep a close eye on corrosion, that's all I'd say.

Yeah, it has been pretty dry recently. Hopefully we'll get a bit of rain before next weekend. Thank god for hose pipes and FS365 in the meantime ;)

I think you can expect a lot of rain before next weekend! Sandcastles could be built around here too, especially at some junctions where they have left it spreading even though they have come to a stop.

Same in Essex. They were gritting all weekend even though we didn't even have a frost. You could see the dust coming off the back wheel of Stu's bike yesterday so both got a proper hose down and FS365 before being put away.

I've also noticed how filthy the roads are at the moment. Farmers don't seem to be at all bothered about cleaning up all the mud and cr@p (literally) that they have splattered all over the roads.

I don't think many farmers have road sweepers in their kit list Clare, and tractors aren't very good at wiping their feet before leaving the fields. ;)

It's the same up here in Dundee as well.

I think they're just being over cautious. It is a pain in the a$$ though :( Roll on spring.

Farmers have a responsibility to clean the roads afterwards. If they don't then council are within their powers to do it for them and then send an invoice.
