Wheel Straightening - who?

my mate (honestly its not me, it really isnt) had an off last year and dinged his front rim, it doesnt look too bad to me but he did manage to wreck the tyre so he obviously hit it hard, hes took it to a place in york (not sure where) they "fixed" it, but when hes got it back its still bent, he took the bike to castle motors in cas , they suggested that it would fail its next mot if its not straightened.

anyone know any places that are competent with this sort of stuff , preferably in the yorkshire area ?

the cost of a replacement is scary

hope you can help

Cheers

Re: Wheel Straightening

No idea in Yorkshire, but I have had front wheels straightened by motoliner in Maidstone before. The turnaround was fast, and the wheel was definitely straight at the end.

Hopefully someone has a more local suggestion.

Re: Wheel Straightening

cheers Jambo,

i dont think hes totally against sending it off, just trying to keep the costs down, they arent exactly light.

dont know where he got the ref for the other company, but they must have realised it was still bent when they handed it back and took his money, hes got a refund, but hes already had 2 wasted trips to york , so maybe not a bad thing to send it to someone in the end.

another recommendation for motoliners, used them half a dozen times myself on various bike wheels, I normally send some decent pictures and they are honest about whether it can be straightened or not, never had a bad result from them.

Cheers Mark.

Maidstone Motoliner are excellent. On more than one occasion they've attempted a repair for me, but where not successful they didn't charge.
That said, with their experience very often they'll know as soon as they see it whether there's a reasonable chance of success or not.

Another big +1 for motoliner. Very quick service indeed.

Re: Wheel Straightening - who?

yeah , hes gonna email those guys dome pics and see what they say,

im sure it can be fixed, it only looks to mi like a ding in the rim, the other gang he took it to must not have known what they were doing.

he ran stright into the back of another bike, if the wheel was fubar id have expected hed have wrecked his forks as well, theyre aparantly straight. he hit the lads sprocket with the tire, popped the tire and just dinged the rim as far as i can tell

see what the motoliner chaps say

thnaks everyone

I strapped the Zeds front wheel to the back of the Sv and took it down to Motoliners.

In the time it took me to go to the local Supermarket and eat some breakfast and browse through a couple of shops nearby they had it fixed for me.

Nice guys too.
