Fully Synth in my bike? problem?
 

I just noticed that most people recommend semi synth oil.... I just bought and poured the following into my bike as it came as a bundle with a sv650 oil filter from busters... is this ok:

Shell advance is good stuff, you'll have no problems with it.

There's lots of info on here regarding fully versus semi. I'm a big fan of fully sythetic, & all the bikes that I've maintained over the last Donkey's years, that have done extreme mileages have all been run on Castrol fully synthetic.

That's good to hear, because this lazy ass just pops down Hellfrauds and grabs Castrol Racing off the shelf (or Power1 for the Gixxer, because it's not worthy of fully synth), so that'll ding dang do for me. :mrgreen:

Great to hear - a few people in "real life" had conflicting views on it but I'm happy to leave it in.. the main issue was one of them thought it may effect the lubricating of the clutch rather than do engine damage.

The clutch does feel as if it doesnt full disengage when starting off or wheeling it about but it may be due to the level being bang on the full line (no higher)... not sure

The fully synth is more expensive (generally) because the synthetic base is said to provide better lubrication throughout the temp range, hence Castrol's marketing their version as "Racing". My understanding is that the SV doesn't need "fully" because it doesn't stress the engine as much as the typical supersport type. But there's nothing wrong with using it and Spannerman's suggestion that it provides the best protection could be right.
