Finishing off brake bleeding?
 

Hi

I rebuilt my SV's brakes a couple of months ago. Rear is fine, but the front still feels a bit spongy at the start of the lever and also when braking medium to hard, it feels like the brakes are being applied on/off/on/off almost pulsating as if the discs might be warped.

Now there's no reason I can think of that would mean the discs are warped and I've bled the calipers fine, with no bubbles, and I've tied the lever back twice overnight and it hasn't made a lot of difference.

Only thing I can think of is trapped air around the master cylinder?

A stuck calliper could give a spongy springy feel.
pulsing brake with no abs is not correct.

I rebuilt the calipers, they are all greased and were cleaned thoroughly so I highly doubt it is that.

Check the disc runnout (for vibration.)

Contamination on the disc(s) could cause the on-off pulsing when braking.

You have to start your investigations some were.
Run out is Ez to say yes it's ok or not.As is axles ,free bearings.

You mention the MC. Have you bled from the MC banjo? When I first bled the brakes, I couldn't get a firm lever until I bled from the MC Banjo. Now, I always start from the top and work down. At least start there so you can eliminate it as a cause. Just remeber to put a few rags or paper towel around the banjo to stop fluid from leaking everywhere.

I'm going to bleed from the MC banjo and see if that makes any difference.

Another good trick is calipers off.
pump out pistons on 1 side.
push them back in to force the fluid and any bubbles to the MC. ( a good time to clean and re-grease)
Do for both sides and and then a quick re bleed on the caliper end.

Has always worked for me even on horrible dry systems that can be a pain.

OK, but I rebuilt my brakes in Feb/March. Don't need cleaning/greasing. New pads were installed, and new fluid of course.
