anyone into beach fishing?
 

Title says it, thinking of taking my bike down to the coast this bank holiday Monday i think either hunstanton or southwold and maybe do a bit of fishing.

Anyone up for it? Or have any good fishing spots/ tips/ places around this area?

Shingle Street at Orford Ness is reputed to be good but I don't know how you get on the island.

I used to go, but its easier to burn a couple of tenners, then go home fishless, rather than buy loads of bait, sit on the beach for hours and then go home fishless.

The catch reports in the local paper haven't been good, because of all the Easterly winds recently, doesn't do the fishing any good, and the boats haven't been able to go out with pleasure anglers either.

As DT says, Shingle Street is a good mark, we used to go there regularly, fish near the river entrance near the martello tower as one suggestion. But the whole beach is ok.

You could go onto Orford Ness, and fish off the beach, you need to get the ferry onto to Ness & back again.

Or go to Sizewell and fish near the hot water outlets of the power station, for consistent sport.

I've never seen any anglers on the beach at Hunstanton, its very shallow & very muddy. The better beaches are at Brancaster, a little further up the coast.

Again no one caught anything, as they had been gale force winds in the Wash which had stirred up all the mud putting all the fish off feeding

Another popular spot is the beach at the viewing area at the Port of Felixstowe, its deep water with a short chuck, but you have to be careful where you fish as there's lots of snags left over from previous jetties & quays.

But because of all the traffic, no commercial trawlers can fish there, so its a safe haven for the fish

Rod 12ft beachcaster, with 15lbs line, 4oz breakaway lead

bait lugworm or ragworm, with some mackerel strips as well. You'll need to order the worms

Or a whole squid, but the water is a bit cold for bass, so leave it until later in the year
