New owner questions, which mods?

Hi, after many years of saying im going to do it I have recently bought a 06 plate pointy:p.

I am not the most mechanically minded but i have just changed the tail tidy, thanks to youtube(the one fitted had a dodgy indicator) and i now havethe bug. I saw this site and it has lots of great info/advice so thank you already to all the members in advance to the many questions that i will no doubt ask.

My first question. As a newbe to all this, what would your first changes to a otherwise stock pointy be? I was looking at getting a hugger?

Welcome!

The first thing i would do(well, its not that important at the mo as there is some weird yellow thing in the sky) is a fenda extenda. Stops water getting down the front plug hole, and causing you to run on one cylinder.

Other than that, just ride the damn thing! Upgrades will come, but fuel is more important!

Add a fuel exhaust and throw the baffle in the bin.

Sorry forgot to mention have a BEOWULF exhaust and that seems todo the job, plenty loud enough :)

Got to say that in 7 years my sv has never suffered from the water in the front plug problem. Ok I'm a fair weather biker, but I've rode in torrential rain and never had a problem.

If they need changing, first thing I'd get is some decent tyres.

Mods? You've just got it - spend money on petrol and ride it.

See what the suspensions like for you. If you like it, leave it. If not, maybe look at swapping the front springs to a good set of progressive ones, or upgrade the rear shock, or if your feeling brave, how about a GSXR front end swap?!

It depends of course on what you want to use it for.
I use mine mostly on twisty mountain back roads, with an occasional track day.
Fork springs for my weight and Race Tech emulators made the front work extremely well.
Adding Honda 600f4i front calipers with EBC HH pads made the brakes fantastic.
Penske's cheapest shock, sprung and valved for my weight and riding style made the rear suspension as good as the front.
A K&N filter,, aftermarket pipe and some re-jetting to match gave it a little extra power. For track days, it could use even more power.
I can't think of anything else it needs...
