Guys, im in need of some mechanics advice.
Ive got a 2000 sv650s. I just bought a short beowulf end can and fitted it last night. (I had to cut original pipe btw).
Anyway, after only 1mile of riding its started coughing, and has a serious loss of power.. I was told by putting this on it wouldnt need re jetting...
Could it be the jets, oil on sparks, carb set up...?? Etc..
Im not going to touch the bike unless I know how to but I need to use it by the weekend.

you've given some vague descriptions there, how short is short? coughing? how much is serious power loss? did you do anything else? was it sealed?

I've run an SV (all be it briefly) without a tail pipe, and it worked, a more complete post might give us a better clue as to what the cause maybe.

The exhaust is 380mm. When I was riding along, all of a sudden it was back firing, like popping. The speed if I open the throttle would slowly increase, giving me a maximum of 70mph in 5th. 6th gear would slow it down further.
All I did was cut the original pipe and replace it. I didnt touch anything else.
When you say sealed? Do you mean exhayst link pipe because thats as tight as can be.

I think something just happened to go bad right after you put on the pipe.
Are both plugs firing?
Just as a for instance, I had a broken front plug wire on my '00 which gave me an intermittent problem that was very similar to the sound of yours.

did you seal the exhaust ? i had an air leak in mine and caused to to back fire a lot , it was drawing in air , i would make sure its totaly sealed first

i got a beowulf 380mm fitted not long back..

Back firing on release of throttle and rolling at around 3500/4000 revs, so dont worry about that.

The lack of power aint from the exhaust buddy, i've run mine with no can on at all and the decrease in power wasnt as bad as what you're saying here.

Iv got a 450mm beowulf on mine. It made the engine feel more responsive and better (with the baffle out anyway). The shorter the can, the leaner it will ake your engine run i believe. Although i woudntbhave thought it would mske that much difference.

I had the acuum hose come off the fuel tap on the tank once. Thst made it very similsr tobhow you are describing. Popped alot and there wasnt much power. (Obviously as its barely getting any fuel)

Id start by whipping the tank up and seeing if theres anything out of place, looking suspicious or any kinked tubes.

Oh and yes Lew. The backfire. Normal on overrun i believe. Mine does it quite abit, and i love it :). Haha

You guys are giving me some great advice.
Took it out again for a ride and still happening. I think ill just start with the tank up, swapping air filter for a k&n, then check plugs.. just hope its not carbs:/
