What are SV1000's like?

Having had an SV650s about 5 years ago I'm now in a position to look at getting a bike again. I fancy an SV1000, how do they compare to riding an SV650? Clearly they're going to have more power but are they just like riding a more powerful, slower stearing 650 or are they a completely different beast? What are the brakes like and are they any better on comfort than the 650?

Completely different beast.

Brakes are very good, exGSXR750. Better suspension, massive grunt, awesome sound with a pair of naughty cans.

Where the SV650 can be thrown about, the thou needs a bit of man handling. Definitely not a girl's bike :-)

Im a bit torn at the moment between getting a car ill enjoy or keeping my boring car and getting a bike! I guess the answer is to get out there, find a nice one and take it for a test ride!

Boring car and decent bike for sure!
Nothing justifies not having a bike during summer/nice days :D

It's all perspective, whilst no doubt a more luxurious car would be a nicer place to be when stuck behind that bus, a bike of course would have just gone around it and had a brilliant ride instead, your choice :smt102

I did own a Firestorm for a while.
I really liked it. It had high level scorpion end cans and sounded so good. I liked the grunt and the pull of the bike. I did forget a few times its a v-twin and locked the back wheel when comming flying down the gear box to slow down.

Is a sv1000 anything like a Firestorm in the way it handles and delivers the power?

I rode MarkH's SV thou a few weeks back for a little stint. First impressions were its nothing at all like a 650. Much more torquey engine, extremely agricultural with a quite a lot of vibration from everywhere (I remember a lot through the pegs), and it was impossible to not slide to the back of the seat when you open it up. Best if you have a big ****, so you're already at the back of the seat before you wind it on!

Didn't have long enough on it to give it a fair go, but basically I think it'd be a good fun step up from a 650, but its not at all refined. It's a bike that provides an experience rather than serving a specific purpose or doing one thing particularly well. Just my feeling of it from a short ride, and that would probably explain why you don't see a huge amount of them. It probably suits a particular type of rider.

Why not get a cheap 600 class bike, and a better car.
Luxurious cars can be had cheap if you look about.
Iv a V40, even though its 1,000,000, miles its still very comfy.
