Potential SV650SX owner, buying advice?

I have the chance of purchasing a SV650SX 1999 with 48000 miles on it, to use for my daily commute to work. Are there any potential problems I need to be looking out for and any upgrades that might be worth adding if I get it? The dealer has just took it for a trade in and is asking £1200 for it.

Hmm, probably fair but not brilliant price but then the weather has just changed and everyone wants a bike now; which is why its £1200. I also commute daily on mine btw and it's up to the job. Check e bay completed listings to see what people are paying.

Front suspension is rubbish and worth sorting out the forks with new springs and heavier oil etc straight away. Did mine and it made a big difference, if the one you are thinking about is on original springs they will be well past there best. Have a search on here for the different options. Rear shock is also weak, again do a search, loads of info. Personally I think the rest of the bike is fine.

Search grahams motorcycles in Bradford and call him. He just bought my cosmetic damage cat d fully faired curvy back with 18k on it and u could probably get for 1200ish mate.

BRilliant bike. Also a good honest dealer.

GOod luck

Good chance of the back shock being dead by now, also the worm clutch lifters seem to last about 20k. As said above the fork springs as standard are way too soft, so if not replaced already then £100 for them is needed. It's not like they wear out though. Otherwise it's a pretty reliable bike in the main, so look for usual signs of a hard life. 1200 does seem a bit steep TBH for this age and mileage.

Sounds like about £600 worth.Nothing wrong with these old curvys(Ive got one)but they are not worth over £1000 and much less with a bit of mileage on them.

Maybe I should look for a similar aged CBR600F instead then?

Nah get the SV, far preferable... just there are better buys than that one
