Increased fuel consumption? Curvy.

Hi to all,

I've got a SV650s, '02, and soon it will be year that I am enjoying it... But there is a BUT...

When I bought it, from filling up a tank to blinking light I was able to about 145 miles (it slightly varied, because sometimes I was doing mostly highways, sometimes city roads with a pillion). Once I even got 180 miles to the light, but that was only highway...

Then winter came, and it started decreasing... I thought it was because of cold weather, maybe because of dirty filters or so... Now couple weeks ago bike had done full service, so i filled up a tank and... Unfortunately, after 102 miles light started blinking again... A year ago, when I bought SV, it had 31k miles on the clock, now it is 39k...

Has anyone had a problem like that and can tell me, how to solve it? I would really appreciate that... THANK YOU ;)

Chokes sticking? Brakes sticking?

Well I think no and no... When I start the bike and choke is on, revs are about 2.5k, when choke is off, revs are about 1.5k... Although I noticed, that when bike is on neutral, revs are not completely stable... The arrow moves a bit... Although the sound doesn't really change... Oh, and after service I was told, that clutch already needs to be changed... But honestly I do not feel any slipping or so...

Could it be that when you got it you rode it like a newbie grandma and now you're more experienced you ride it like you stole it?

Do a search on here for choke plungers and see if taking them out and freeing them off sorts it.

The thing is, that I think my riding is changed, but it is still most of the time very light... Just like when I got it, I often ride with my second half as a pillion, and compered to most of the riders that passes us I ride like a good grandchild... Unfortunately I have nobody with a normal bike to go for a proper ride out, so riding nicely most of the time...

Pillion uses **** loads more petrol in my experience
Light came on at least 30 miles earlier than norm last time ... Though it was a male mate, I let him on on the basis he was girl heighted, unfortunately he was still a good 12 stone

Choke plungers (or more likely one of) sticking is still an option, and fits in with uneven revs.... As would unbalanced carbs

There are guides to check the plungers yourself to rule that out withou specialist tools. Is there any stiffness when using the choke lever? Or a 'two stage' feeling?

Went outside to check it (deamn that rain), and actually yes, there is some kind of a 'two stage' feeling... I've never noticed it before, but from none to the middle it goes a bit easier, then hardens a bit a second half is harder... Might that be just a problem with a choke?

More than likely, would explain the increased MPG. Once investigated and sorted balnce the carbs so you get a smooth idle, this should get the MPG back up again
