What's it worth? Ohlins rear shock
Put my bike through its MOT on Saturday - the ohlins rear shock failed the MOT (practically no damping) which I knew it wasn't handling right anyway. I've returned to the stock shock which got me through the MOT.
I know these are expensive to buy new - but what price do they hold second hand? It needs a service - I've been quoted £150 from an ohlins specialist in Atherton. Just wondering if its justifiable to get it serviced and sold. Looks the same as this: http://www.jcmotors.com/images/PRODU.../JCM-SU852.jpg |

Why not get it serviced and back on the bike set up correctly? If I'd gone to the trouble of purchasing and fitting the thing I'd want a result at the end of it...
Just my two pennies. |

But seriously, get it rebuilt properly and refit it. Is it designed for your bike or botched on? |

Well if you have to rebuild the shock before you sell it and possibly buy a replacement you wont be pocketing much. And if you are planning to put the original shock that came with the bike back on you might find you don't enjoy your bike very much anymore. Unless the Ohlins was that far gone.

Re: What's it worth? Ohlins rear shock
Without it being stripped by a company that knows what they're doing the cost of the rebuild is uncertain, as it may need more than seals, oil & gas. For that reason if you sell it now it'll command a lower price. If you get it rebuilt it should sell for good money as it is of known condition.
Ohlins made several shocks that fit, some are worth more than others, so the exact unit numbers including the numbers on the spring will tell people what it's worth. I'd quite like to make you a silly offer to take it as is and roll the dice, but honestly it's probably going to get you the best money if you have it rebuilt. It just depends if you can front the money to see the return, or if you'd just like some money in your pocket now? Jambo |

Send it down to MCT http://www.mctsuspension.co.uk/Home.html
They worked wonders with my Blade's stock sprinty bits, and were pretty reasonable price-wise. |
