ferry ticket prices

its a feckin joke. £18.35 return to go to Mull via Lochaline-Fishnish on the bike. why isn't the Scottish government subsidising this as it's the only means of the Island inhabitants getting to the mainland.

I know it costs a lot to run the ferry but that is ridiculous

I try to console myself with the fact that I'm not using any fuel.

On a brighter note the lad on the boat from Hunters Quay to Gourock last Sunday told me he hadn't noticed the bike and charged me as a foot passenger :thumright:.

Gotta love getting on a ferry - feels like you're going on your holidays :)

I see there is now a crossing from Ardrossan to Cambletown. 3hrs!!! Apparently. I dread to think of the cost of that. Although I am tempted as Cambletown and back in a day has always seemed a slog.

And that boat will seem like a FOREIGN holiday Tam! (Nuthin' to do wit the locals you understand :) )

I can't go to Scotland and not get a ferry someplace-------its just not right. As a kid I used to love going to Edinburgh and getting the Queensferry crossing on the old paddle steamers---happy days:D

Came back from GMVI on the Hunters Quay - Gourock ferry - had a nice blether with a Harley rider and looked down at by three d*cks on sports bikes (R1, Gsxr,Cbr) with power rangers suits. (Then proceeded to kick their **** on road to Largs - :D really enjoyed that, HaHa, nothing to do with this thread, just wanted to share cos I rode home with a big smile on my face)

I always offer the fella 2 pre-paid tickets and 9 out 10 times he just takes the one, and doesn't bother charging for the bike. This is probably why everyone used them instead of the old Calmac service.

Had a look at the new ferry - thought that would be fun to ride to Ardrossan - ferry to Campbeltown and ride back around. Then I saw it took 3 hours ? (Quicker to Ireland???) and cost a bloody fortune. - £38.50 for one way & £66.00 return. (Again cheaper to Ireland £25). Don't think I'll be using that service.

Calmac are a bunch of thieving gits. If the can't rip you off (Dunoon - greenock) they just shut up shop and go elsewhere.
