GSXR600 K4-5 Rear Shock

As per title and my conversation with Bilbo I'm after a GSXR600 K4-5 rear shock to replace my ZX6R shock which is oversprung for my weight (12 ish stone)

Would be up for a swap if someone wanted it is suitable for a heavier person!

Thanks,

George

Thanks for the offer but that's still oversprung for what I need. Bilbo may well be interested though!

I had the 2006 zx10r shock on my sv and I'm 12 stone. Wasn't over sprung IMO and no cutting required (although I gather you've already done this to accommodate your existing shock). Its spring rate is only 8.3 kg/mm as opposed to the 9.2 kg/mm of your existing zx6 shock which I agree is over sprung for your weight.

Bibio is right about the gsxr 600 k4/k5 being a a lower spring rate but it's actually less than the standard shock on the sv (stock sv is 7.7 kg/mm, gsxr k4-5 is 7.6 kg/mm). Do you really want to be going softer than the original rear shock at 12 stone?

Check out this chart to see what I'm talking about

The one I think I'm going for is a 2006 GSXR 1000 which has an 8.1 spring rate and is only 5mm lower than stock so should bring about some nice handling! Thanks for all the PM's :)

Not sure about that one mate.
I was always led to believe lowering the rear would effect the handling in a negative way ie slower turn in.
I too considered fitting a shorter than standard shock and was advised against it by those on this very forum. See link
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=178412

Raising the back end a little is the way to go to get the bike to tip in easier.

For the negligible difference in spring rate I'd go for the 06 zx10r (8.3 kg/mm) and have a slightly raised tail (shock is 8mm longer than stock) for better turn in.
It's also easier to fit to a pointy and probably easier to sell on after you're done with it.

Up to you at the end of the day but thought I'd pass on the advice I received on here. Hope you get it sorted :)

I have the standard shock and the gsxr one side by side here and centre to centre they are identical. Happy days.

The '06 gsxr thou shock? If so 5mm might not be that obvious to your eye but it'll equate to double that in terms of drop at the tail end...
If your talking about the gsxr 600 shock in the thread title then that's only 2.5mm difference so even harder to see just by holding the two next to each other.

Did you use vernier callipers?
