Finally got out on the R6 :D

So ive owned my R6 since the beginning of March, but due to an insurance claim ive not insured it yet. But after getting a letter from the PPS asking when in the next 4 months I'm free to be a witness I just thought screw this and insured it for a rip off.

Its been completely road legal since last Friday, I've done about 200 miles on it so far, and what can I say.......I'm just in awe.

Its a 2006 in white and red, and I cannot believe how fast it is, people complain about how dead these are low down, and up until about 4k rpm I will agree, but after that the power just builds and builds and builds until you are doing silly speeds in seconds, its a completely different animal than the SV. It just never seems to run out of revs. The indicated redline is 17,500rpm, but I think the actual rpm is lower, still incredible.

The brakes are incredible, suspension is hard as a rock but holds the road perfectly even over rough surfaces. It just feels so planted around every corner, I can take corners as fast as I could on the SV, exept it doesnt feel like im pushing the R6 at all.

As for comfort there isnt much of it, bars are low, seat is high, pegs are high. First 50 miles or so on it really tired me out, but im getting used to it now and things are starting to get better. Dont think Ill be doing any touring on it though.

It currently has the standard exhaust, but the induction noise from this is unreal, much louder than the SV was even with a Scorpion can on it, puts the biggest smile on my face every time you get up to about 7k rpm. Also the turning circle is laughable, about a 8 point turn to get it turned round to get out of the driveway.

But yeah just thought I'd share my inital thoughts on it, I literally couldnt be happer, just a brilliant, brilliant bit of gear that bike :)

Glad to hear you're enjoying your 2CO

The R6 engine does love revs and I get the same on my 13S, but, they are a hoot and completely different beast from an SV twin "lump"

Lad at work has just got one and he said pretty much exactly what you said about the power. I thought it might be because he's not ridden for a few years but obv not!

I'm 17st though so always felt a sports 600 would struggle with me on board?!

To be honest, the R6 has more power than an SV by quite a fair bit, so, when you get 'em going, your size doesn't matter.

But, to be honest, you have chosen a better bike for "everyday" riding in your SV.

R6's are work to get going, but, when they do, there is nowt like it

Ive only been brave enough to use about 12k rpm on it in 2nd gear, and that was a serious amount of acceleration, not sure where or when I'd be able to take it to the red line. 1st gear is just too brutal to try it with yet.

It is A LOT more powerful than the SV, Bikez have it listed as 131bhp for the 06, I know real world its probably a bit less but it feels like its got about 3 times the power.

@ChrisCurvyS I really dont think it would even notice 17st. Maybe a bit down low bit once it gets going youd have to put about 7 people on it to hinder it.

Might link a few vids from last night, had a little blast up the coast road of NI that a lot of you mainlanders seem to love :)

15k revs in 1st is where it is at my friend XD

But seriously, don't be shy, I used to get her off a corner, onto the fat part of the tyre, get the throttle to the stop and just hoon to 3rd, have to slow down as your head feels like it is gonna come off, they are a riot

I might well consider one for my next bike then.

Got to thinking I'd quickly get bored with anything less than a litre bike but I should give one a go. Cheaper road tax than an SV too ironically!

I too changed from a sv after owning one for the first 7 years of biking a curvy then a pointy and now onto the R6.

I truly love my R6 I think it's an amazing bike when I first left the garage picking it up I thought hmm this thing seems a little slow but now I have learnt how to ride it since I was used to the twin I think that R stands for rocket Jesus it flys and I am 6ft 1 and nearly 17stone (diet needed)

I found the build quality and components of far better quality wife hates it though won't come on it she much preferred the SV.

Enjoy it and ride safe
