Help fitting ZX6 shock
 

I've had a 636 shock ready to go on my bike for ages now, but for the life of me I can't find anywhere that will fit it for me. I don't have the necessary tools to do it myself (and probably not the patience either). I've asked two bike mechanics to do it now, the first one wasn't willing to cut the battery box, etc so I went somewhere else with detailed instructions printed off from this site and SVRider and they still said it wouldn't fit and couldn't do it (even using the battery tray spacing method). I'm getting seriously frustrated now as just want to get it on the bike, and I know the shock will fit as has been done by thousands of other people. If someone on here would be willing to fit it I would gladly pay for your time. Am willing to travel say 50 miles or so. Help!

I can offer you a garage to work in with all the tools you'll need to do the job but don't think I can offer to fit for you at the moment due to being flat out with work/family.

Thanks mate. Will probably need someons to fit the shock if possible though, as my mechanical apptitude isn't great. Appreciate the offer though :)

It's not that hard tbh but I understand your reluctance...

I'd fit it if I had the time but the wife already moans about the amount of time I spend tinkering in the garage with my own bike let alone someone elses ;)

I fitted one, which was easy and its worth while. The major problem is the battery box and you have to make quite a cut in it and the battery etc doesnt fit properly (despite what lots of so called solutions, which are really bodges) I can see a mechanics reluctance. I initially bodged it by extending the battery leads and relocated it on its side under the seat (I later fitted a lightwiegt Shorai battery alongside the front cylinder) With it under the seat you lose space and relocating the battery is nearly as difficult as the spring swap!

Thought the 636 didn't need the battery box cutting on a curvy.

Did mine last year (ZX6R 06), which did need the box cutting, to be honest it's a lot easier than it looks.

Tank off, hinge mounting off. Battery out. Unload swingarm (abba stand or suitable alternative). It's then just a case of unbolting shock (linkage and top bolt off). Offer up new shock and trim the battery box till it fits. Reassemble. Enjoy new less bouncy suspension with lots of confusing adjustments.

Simples.

Thanks Grant that would be good. Will be taking Ronnie up on his offer to help when I can, but photo's would definitely be helpful :)
