Oil level - check upright or on stand?
its over full when the bike is upright , and just over empty when on the sidestand... whats going on, which reading is OK (pun intended)

Re: really stupid oil level question
level is measured with bike upright

Re: really stupid oil level question
Shouldn't be over full when upright. Somewhere in between when upright not on rear paddock stand either.

Re: really stupid oil level question
ok, its just such a huge difference considering the lean angle on the side stand. will overfill damage the bike?
|
Re: really stupid oil level question
Officially yes, damaging gaskets and oil seals however alot of people tend to go with a little more is better than not enough.

Re: really stupid oil level question
Too much can also be as bad as not enough. If it was me I would undo the sump plug and let a bit out when upright so it sits just under the full mark.
That way you know your safe :) |
Re: really stupid oil level question
If it was me and it was overfilled, i wouldnt touch the sump. No doubt half the oil will spill out, just syringe it from the top will be easier and less messy.

Re: really stupid oil level question
The bike needs to have its oil level checked with both wheels level and the bike upright.
If the bike's on the side stand you put quite a bit more oil in than you should. If you use a rear paddock stand and no front stand the motor's tilted forwards, you'll under fill with oil. Jambo Sent from my thingie |
