Could I borrow someone's exhaust for MOT?
 

My MOT for my Suzuki SV650s 2003 is due this week and I need an MOT friendly exhaust for it. I have the original exhaust but it's not fitted, only have the cut off headers and no way to link the two diameter pipes together securely.

Could I borrow someone's? Will come and pick up and drop off same day or next day and pay with beer.
Exhaust must have a link pipe.

I'm based in Guildford, Surrey so would need to be within a reasonable distance from there.

Not much use for this week but there's a couple of places on e-bay that sell connector sleeves for re-attaching original exhausts. £10.50 posted. Got one a couple of weeks ago, quality. Worth having for moments like this or for selling if you want to revert to standard.

^^^ Im with the guy above... Got a DanMoto on mine at the min but will refit the original for MOT as i bought a re-connector sleeve off ebay for £8. But any slightly large piping than the exit of the the cut on your exhaust will work with a few clamps

This sounds like a whole load of hassle just to get through an MOT! My curvy has full titanium system with straight through race can and is correspondingly loud. I have, however, *never* had an issue with getting an MOT. In my opinion the important things are:

- The can is *not* marked 'not for road use' or similar (mine has no markings on it)
- Noise is still at the testers discretion (and long may it remain so) - most of them are decent people and like bikes so appreciate something that sounds nice
- I go to the garage in person on the bike to book the MOT and mention the can there and then - most testers say something along the lines of its a bit loud/probably an advisory but not a fail. If they told me it was going to fail I would go somewhere else. To me this is much less hassle than mucking about with the bike.

This avoids the will it/won't it aspect of this part of the MOT. I've had an advisory for the can every year for as long as I can remember but can live with that - in my opinion the whole noisy can thing is ridiculous anyway given the Harley which goes past my house twice a day every day.

Finally, one caveat is that I *always* make sure my bike is clean and well prepared for its annual MOT. If it looks looked after then they are more likely to let the can go. If it looks like a shed then its one more thing to fail it on.

+1 never had an issue, I use the same guy every year and when I first used him I rode up in person to book it, and mentioned the exhaust to which he smiled and replied 'nah won't be an issue mate I'm a bit deaf anyway'

As has already been mentioned, most are bike enthusiasts anyway so as long as its fitted correctly can't see any issues.

I have taken the bike to a few bike MOT garages near me and they all said they'd fail it for its fruity exhaust, but the 4th garage I went to (a Suzuki dealer) saying "what noise? it sounds lovely"
So don't worry guys, I've booked the old girl in for an MOT at the Suzuki dealership :)
