Clutch slip?

Hi guys,
Have a pointy which a few weeks ago slowly started developing more and more clutch slip, having done nothing to alter the clutch and it getting progressively worse I (and mechanically minded friend) inspected the clutch which didn't look too bad but was showing signs of wear!
To be on the safe side, for piece of mind and because it was all in bits anyway I fitted a new clutch with heavier springs! Adjusting the clutch took almost all of the screw (flat head screwdriver bit with 10mm lock nut) to get the right bite etc and its still slipping like before!

Not too bad in 1st, 2nd and 3rd but as you roll on throttle in 4th and 5th it slips pretty badly (unless you roll on really really slowly) and in 6th gear its nigh on impossible to accelerate at all!

Any ideas for adjustment/ things to check or replace people? Or just generally any advice! May have left some vital bits of info out so ask away if you need more?
Thanks in advance

Re: Clutch slip?

Have you done the full adjustment of the release mechanism, starting with the clutch cable fully slackened off?

If you get no joy, pm me and I'll sort you out with the number of a good mobile mechanic I use in our area (he doesn't charge vat so is cheap too).

Sounds like something is wrong with the lifter/worm gear. Are you sure you are leaving the correct amount of free play in the system?

I've got this problem too just now. Only happens at full throttle at high rpm. I've fitted a new cable and checked the adjustment but can't seem to fix it.

Re: Clutch slip?

Dan did you soak the friction plates in oil before fitting them?

have no idea Daz but i would suspect something is not adjusted right.

Yep, ended up being soaked for 3 days in the same oil i used to re-fill engine again.

I dont recall slackening the lower adjuster, so will give that a go at some point this week... Failing that how would i go about checking the worm gear/lifter? Is that something that is adjustable or if its gone wrong its kaput and i need a new one?
