i take it that the outer part of textiles with a drop liner get soaked as its the liner that is waterproof just like waterproof gloves?

Yeah its the inner liner that's waterproof on mine, so the outer is always drenched

Yes, but if you treat the textiles with something like Nikwax TX direct it can help treat the outer as well and helps make it faster to dry, and more shower proof.

Does anyone have anything that is actually waterproof. I mean as in actually keeps you dry in the pouring rain on the motorway for an hour or more. Personally I think we have all been conned as I have paid all manner of sums for clothing and ended up wet.

i do believe that Rukka does what is says on the tin.

my overproofs have done a sterling job up till now but they are a pain in the proverbial.

I know I keep banging on this drum, but give Halvarssons a go. Ridden all day on the GMVI test ride in torrential rain for around 240 miles, and the only bit of me that got wet was my stomach from water coming up over my waterproof overtrousers! But that is always going to happen unless you get a set of bib & Brace trousers (Which Halvarssons do do and I will be looking at this winter!)

The outer does get wet, but that is abrasion resistant materials not the waterproof layer. I saw a Halvarssons jacket that had been cut open (in queensferry bike shop) and showed about 5 different layers. Abbrasive on the outside and then others I couldn't work out what each layer did but guess they all had a job to do.

My previous FT jacket had the outer abrasive layer as the waterproof layer also, but after a few scrubs and a few years. it lost its waterproofing, even tried to nikwax but that didn't work that well. So I guess that having a waterproof inner layer is better in that it doesn/t get battered by dirt and bugs.

I have a jacket given away free with Avon tyres a few years back and a pair of nylon trousers that are totally waterproof, however they don't breathe, but do pack down small so are easy to carry, likewise my Triumph onepeice is much the same and has remained waterproof over a couple of hundred miles of heavy rain.

Textiles tend to be a bit of a compromise, as the waterproof lining is vented to breathe it will leak eventually, so it's not "will it leak" but more "how long will it remain waterproof", but then it's also doing a thermal and protection job as well.

140 in the same weather in Joffama (same brand as Halvarrsons) and the outer was spot on.
I was my textiles with Nikwax (the wash detergent and the wash in waterproofer) and mine are fine, done this with both sets over the last 4 years and they've failed because of offs
