Recommend me a camera.

I quite fancy a Digital SLR camera to take to Turkey and for other family days out/events, the only cameras we have in the house are on Android phones or on the HDD camcorda we have, both my brother in laws have DSLR's, they both recommend Canon.

I have been looking at the Canon EOS 1100D, I think this should be more than enough for my needs.

Alternatively a standard digital camera would do, does any one have any recommendations?

Budget is £250ish for Digital SLR I can pick up the 1100D for less than this second hand

or

£150 for normal digital camera

Unless anyone has a camera for sale

The big two are Canon and Nikon. You'll be a better man than me if you can tell their photos apart.

I have a Nikon D40 and a Nikon D3200. Both excellent. Shop around. You may pick up an older model (like a D40) on ebay or Gumtree for not a lot of money.

You'll probably not need the latest, all singing, all dancing model as it'll be obsolete next year....

Here's a site recommended to me by another Orger, Mister C if I remember

http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/use...l-slr-cameras/

Lots of choice, plus some comeback if it doesn't work

I still haven't taken the plunge in getting an SLR, but I will

What about bridge camera's, I can;t afford a full DSLR but don't want a bog standard compact.

I have seen a Samsung W100 (I think) seems to have good reviews and as its an end of line they are on clearance at sub £100

I bought the mrs a 1100D and I think it's good value for money. It does everything you'd want it to, plus a lot more. I don't see how any normal user would want anything more features-wise. It does everything automatically and you can override pretty much any setting you want manually. I think you can download a pdf manual for it, which should give you an idea of how it works and what it does.

This is worth reading.

Other good sites include London Camera Exchange - they have a website that shows what stock is in their branches all over the country and Mifsuds who stock a good range of used gear. Also Cameraworld are a good independent store in Chelmsford and London that I often used and they sell used gear via their website.

If you want something really versatile pick yourself up a second hand Canon like the 1100D or a 350D which is a great little camera. Get a body only and buy yourself a second hand Canon or Sigma 18 - 200mm lens. They are lightweight but cover most of the range you will ever need. Great for holidays. I use mine when I can't be bothered to lug the L series pro lenses about in my bag.

Just throwing this out there (haven't had time to read the full thread yet, will do tonight)
I've got a 450d with battery, charger, box, 18-55mm IS lens that is surplus to my requirements now £165 posted if it is of any interest.

That is a bargain, great camera and cash left over to buy a 70 - 300mm zoom.

If you've still got it in a couple of months Brett I might take it off your hands.
