Looking at buying another SV... but would like some advice
Hi Guys, Maybe you can give me some advice on what to actually get.
Currently looking at getting 1 of 3 different SVs, All from the same dealership, the 3 bikes are as follows 1) Naked K8 in grey with 5.3k miles for £3.000 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...ge/1?logcode=p 2) Part Faired K8 in dark blue with with 5k miles for £3,400 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...ge/1?logcode=p 3) Full Faired L1 in Black for £3,900 with 4.8k miles http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...ge/1?logcode=p Now, I am leaning more towards the black L1 but am just curious as to what others think would be the best options and if anyone owns one? Are reasonably priced for what you get? What kind of mileage they get per tank (my old curvy did around 120 miles before light came on) My commute is 72ish mile per day so 140 mile per tank is pretty much essential and is around 50/50 motorway/city riding, Do you think all 3 would do this easily? Obviously all this has probably been answered multiple times and I have checked the MPG thread and It seems that the bike can vary drastically in the mileage but havent seen a 2012 one mentioned there yet. Thanks and apologies in advance. |

Personally, if I was using it to commute those miles each day, I would get a bikini faired with a decent screen.

Fuel economy and tank range are going to be similar for just about any pointy SV, it carries around 1L of additional fuel compared to the curvy and uses a similar amount for a given condition.
I'd personally say given your commute I'd prefer one of the semi-faired ones to the naked, as a little wind and weather protection can make a difference in poor conditions, but that's down to personal preference, you might find the wide bars more comfortable. From the list there I'd probably go for option 2. But I'd ask whether one with more miles is cheaper? Back of envelope maths has you commuting for ~17,000 miles a year. If you're going to put 50,000 miles on the bike in 3 years is it worth starting with something quite as new? Jambo |

I have a fully faired bike and would recommend it. The lower fairings do more that you'd expect to keep rain off you legs, and if I keep my toes on the pegs and heels tucked in my feet are almost kept dry. Also they look better. Go the black one and make me jealous - mine's a soppy pale blue. |

I get about 170 till the light goes solid on my pointy and thats all town riding so you shouldn't have a problem. With your commute I'd definitely get a half/full faired one though :) enjoy whatever you get though mate!

if your leaning towards the L1 then you might just get a brand new one for not much more. i do know that Cupar MC's are doing them OTR with full tank petrol and decent finance rates for £4295 so someone down south must be doing them at the same price or cheaper.

That being said, in the grand scheme of things the price difference between something like an '08-09 bike with 10-20k miles will be around £2500 so the difference isn't huge. I have a '12 plate bike and get 150 miles plus or minus 5 before the light comes on. |
