OMO Radio Scanner advice required
 

Hey guys, I'm after a bit of help from anyone in the know...

Basically, through work I want to purchase a scanner in order to listen to (not transmit) some equipment that broadcasts between 440-475 MHz. The equipment is licensed to work on airport.

Does anyone know where I would find such a scanner? I've looked on RS and Maplin's but every one I've checked so far seems to be limited to bands outside of this.

Hi Dabteacake. I've no knowledge of this area unfortunately so I don't even know what a radio key is? Is it for security? All I remember is that when one of the yanks was over 5 years ago commisioning the system, he used a scanner from Walmart to listen in. And when I say listen it, it's just listening to the data packets being sent now and then, literally just a bleep. But if I can listen to these, it'll help me with some fault finding. If you type UHF scanner in ebay you will find literally hundreds, some good ones can start at just £30
However, don't know if you are looking for wideband, narrowband, AM, FM, data, voice etc so difficult to recommend. Do you know the frequency or do you need to search?
Personally I use a spectrum analyser to chase down problems - can you loan one?
Take a look at waters and stanton website for a better idea of non commercial bits and bobs are out there

Yes the key is for security but as stated above you can buy them online from America if you know the frequencys you need so get searching on the tinterweb

A Radio Shack/Realistic pro 2006 is a nice rig and will pick up everything FM.
I've got one, lovely, although FM unencrypted is getting rather quiet nowadays.. used to pick up cordless phones, pagers and allsorts years ago..
