curvy cat c write off resoration
 

hey guys
I was nocked off my sv by an idiot in a range rover who pulled out on my left at a round about. aside from squashed balls and a left wrist with a metal plate in it i'm not too bad :p the
sv however is a cat C write off.
so the plan now is to make a decision on what path I want to go down, streetfighter, caf racer or maybe some track fairing... i'm not sure
so far I have some standard forks on the way and a piece for the rh foot peg that had broken.
I would have liked to replace the forks for a nice upside down front end but i'm trying to keep it to a budget if I can, at least until the insurance sorts its self out.
so I was wondering what you guys think is for the best and if you had any tips on how to do it.
as it was a front end impact all of the plastics , the mounting frame underneath and headlights are broken so I was thinking that the easiest solution would be to put on a little headlight unit even if its just temporary. The issue is that anything decent seems to be too pricey or that it is not E marked which I will need for it to get back on the road.
also what is the best thing to do with my instruments, am I best sourcing an after market cluster, iff so what do you recommend or should I try to find the stock ones for a naked sv?
any advice would be awesome

Hi tom sorry to hear about the off.

You seem to know what you want to do and with the things your suggesting I would massively recommend you drop Roberrrt and TamSv a pm regarding replacement lights and instruments etc they're both familiar with your options there.

To do this as cheap as possible, I'd go for the following;

Headlight - big round headlight from your local breakers or fleabay. Doesn't really matter what bike it's off (so long as it's 12v). Get one that's side-mounted then you just need some fork mounted brackets that'll hold the headlight and indicators.

Clocks - If you want to go aftermarket have a look at Koso, Trailtech Vapor, Veypor and Acewell. See what you like the look of. Pretty straightforward to wire up with the help of a wiring diagram - the hardest part is hiding the S front wiring loom. They're not cheap though. Naked curvy clocks in good nick are rare and expensive unfortunately so that's not usually a budget option either.

Cheap option - Back to the breakers and get any old-school cable drive speedo off some old POS Honda or whatever, preferably with the main idiot lights included. The Mk1 600 Bandit speedo cable drive fits the curvy axle so one of those will make your speedo work. You can buy wee devices that will change the gearing ratio of the cable drive if the Bandit unit doesn't match your speedo (if you happen to use Mk1 Bandit clocks then that won't be a problem obviously). Then it's a bit of buggering about to get the idiot lights working. Could potentially look the part too if you go for a cafe racer look.

You don't say if your clocks are actually bust or if it's just that there's nowhere to mount them now. If they're still OK you can use them - they won't cost you anything and they'll work without any buggering about. You just need to work out an alternative way to mount them. You'll need to do that anyway whatever you choose to do. Might not look brilliant if you decide to keep it naked but depends where you are on the cost/looks curve. :)

my forks arrived and I was pleasantly surprised to find they have adjusters :) I didn't know they did any of the curvys with adjustable forks
I believe them to have come of a race bike and they have been powdercoated mustard yellow! :( so a lot of sanding later they are in primer.

as for the instruments i have this koso setup which i know would work which was meant for another project. my friend also has a light unit i can have but i'm still very undecided on whether to caf racer or not and to do the best I can with repairing my scabby old fearings.
the advice has been great but the only think now left puzzling me is how i could squash all of that wiring loom in to the frame or behind the light. is it as simple as chopping and re attaching?

Yep does look good
