Curvy inlet rubber clamp screws?
 

Hi, new member here. Had the carbs off the other week and when tightening the clamps on the inlet rubbers, the screw just started spinning and won't unscrew at all or tighten properly. Any ideas on how to solve this?

Welcome :).

Everything on an sv is like cheese mate. I havent had this myself, but i imagine you can get those jubilee type clips anywhere. Id take it off and replace

Im sure somebody will be along soon with other options though :).

I imagine I will have to replace it but how can I get it off? I can't unscrew it or take the carbs off as it is still quite tight.

Did you over tighten it? You can still slip the carbs off unless it is really too tight. Can you get any snips in?

Im not sure mate. Is it sealed at the moment or not?

I'll see if I can get the carbs off, I just assumed I couldn't as it was still tightened up a fair bit. Everything's on and working, just gotta replace the throttle cables soon and while the airbox was off I was gonna sort this out.

Either the threads are goosed from overtightening, or the captive nut into which the screw threads has come adrift, (it's got teeny welds that hold it to the strap - although perhaps not any more), and is spinning with the screw. Either situation will require their replacement. The clamps are nothing special, any clamp you can find that fits will do, but note the the groove in the rubber in which they sit is somewhat narrower than a typical hose clamp.
Carefully but firmly wiggle the carbs side to side while pulling upwards and they will eventually be wrested free of the clamps. Heat helps by softening the rubber, this weather makes things firm up a bit, so either run the motor 'til it's warm or perhaps use a heat gun - low setting obviously.

OK cheers mate, I'll try that when the throttle cables come. Perhaps I'll save up all the things that need doing for one day and balance the carbs while I'm at it.
