Power Commander gains SV1000?
How much power would I expect to gain on my 2006 sv1000?
Iv read been the "sz" model that the engine is slightly tweeked? Does this mean I would need a power commander that fits only the sz model? How much would I expect to pay and what gains would I expect? Any make to look out for? Thanks in advance |
Re: Power Commander gains SV1000?
All 1000's after from K5 ( black framed ) got the power mods. some of it was ECU, but also throttle bodies, compression ratio, intake and other bits and bobs I think. You can tweak the stock ECU with a Yoshi, Tekka or Probike box. Probike I understand is the best. This can remove the flat spot, but you don't really need more power for the road. I wouldn't bother with the PC.

Everyone wants more power ;) question is how much power? I wouldn't pay £200/300 or whatever if I'm only guna get 2bhp |
Re: Power Commander gains SV1000?
I know I always say this but I've not said it for a while so will say it again .....
Before messing with anything to avoid flat-spots, juddering, power loss, fuel economy or anything like that on the thou, get your throttle bodies balanced. Simple job, massive improvements possible. Then spend the extra £200 on bacon butties instead. |
Re: Power Commander gains SV1000?
Mark... I've balanced the throttle bodies but still have a ( very slight ) hesitancy at 5200. Really only noticable if cruising at about that revs and then accellerating. My fuel economy is very good ( when not on track ).
Niall... more power is always nice, but on the road, a decent midrange torque curve is what you want from the SV. If you are HONESTLY pulling the throttle to the stops up the rev range all the time, then fair enough, but how often are you riding like this on the road ? I only really feel I could do with more power when on the straights at the track. If the supersports are running you ragged on the road, it's probably more to do with their agility and considerable advantage in weight. I would fit a faster action throttle, EBC sintered pads, braided front lines and some cheap lighter cans for the best gains per buck. I think one of the Suzuki SV specialist dealers also do a filter and clamp band that allows removal of the airbox lid and gives reasonable BHP return against investment. Look at JHS or ask SVracer on here. Ratty |
Re: Power Commander gains SV1000?
Ask Skip he had one fitted to his Thou, plus a remap
Didn't do anything for absolute power gains, but smoothed out the power delivery to make it a much nicer bike to ride |

I appreciate that the bigger the throttle opening the less impact balancing has (mine ran with one throttle body completely off when you kept the revs over 5k) but doing that transformed my lumpiness. That said, the thou is never going to be the smoothest beast. Also in the old days JHS racing used to be the go-to folk for SV1000 fettling. May be worth a call for advice. |

Thanks for all the comments guys appreciate it :) I'll see about getting my throttle bodies balanced. Does this need to be a specialist or can most decent garages do it?

Re: Power Commander gains SV1000?
Mine was fine after I re-balanced at higher revs. Bloody noisy job though!
