Bad habit??
Just had a ride out......generally 'avoid' towns, but today used the ride to do some Banking.......
All the red lights, down into 2nd.....stop...straight into 1st, sat in gear with clutch in instead of neutral......is this acceptable/damaging etc?? "Gas it w###a"......... |
Re: Bad habit??
I do it all the time on my bike and in my car/van.
As far as I'm aware it's not damaging unless you mean to your wrist. It might be considered bad practice though since if you had a wrist spasm or something you might wind up shooting into oncoming traffic. |
Bad habit??
Yeah I'm same in the car......
Police instructor didn't pickup on it last week mind!! "Gas it w###a"......... |
Re: Bad habit??
Just apply the ten-second rule if you like (anything is okay for a short while).
Mind you, if someone taps you up the a**e and you are in gear, oops. That said, I don't do the foot shuffle like you ought to when stopped. |
Re: Bad habit??
Personally I put the right foot down so I have my gear foot free and tap into neutral. Years of town riding means you get quite keen on these things. I think I have 75 sets of traffic lights on my 15 mile commute but I could be wrong.

The only time I'll keep it in gear at the lights is if I'm in a particularly vulnerable position and might want to move out of the way a bit sharpish. Otherwise I'm a right foot down merchant, and you can keep the Hendon shuffle to yourself, that's been out of date for years. |
Bad habit??
Places extra load and thus unnecessary wear on the lifter and release bearing. If you're stopped briefly it's fine of course, there's no need to be obsessive, but any longer then put it in neutral.

Re: Bad habit??
Generally right foot down for me. If however I'm sitting in a lane waiting to go left, and the lane to my right has moving traffic going straight ahead I'll put my left foot down and vice versa. You know just in case some plonker screws up and takes my leg out. Foot down on the safest side :).
