Use of right tun filter lanes
 

Is it just me being old and grumpy? Or have an increasing number of cage drivers (This problem occurs for me when I too am behind the wheel) forgotten how to use right turn filter lanes.

I see many vehicles slow down in front of me and fail to use the filter to then turn right across the filter. This does give them a wider turning circle. but in turns slows me down. Just as annoying are the ones that fail to fully enter the filter and cause me to then pull over to the left in order to get past them. OK until there is a cyclist there.

Just to be controversial, I would guess the majority of these are middle age and older women. It is as if they do not want to have to turn the wheel.

Of course I do not expect large vehicles to use these filter as it would be impossible for them to turn in the space.

It's a pet hate of mine too. It's just laziness and demonstrative of the general lack of cooperation between all road users.

I think it's fine. It allows me to ride my bike down the lane and then cut in at the front of the queue and then go straight ahead.

Until the day you get one who didn't check the mirror and had forgotten the indicator too, who as your along side executes the turn

Never known a car yet that can turn whilst it's front wheels are pointing straight ahead..... These people that think indicators are just flashing lights......;)

I do appreciate the tongue in cheek alternative use of the unused "centre" lane.

In fact, this is another of my old age gripes. Many of these right turn filter lanes locally have been conversions of what was once central overtaking lane. These lanes worked well for 50 plus years. Open to traffic to overtake in either direction. If there was oncoming traffic in it, you didn't use it.

But for some reason the local council has deemed these dangerous and plonked useless traffic islands in the middle to stop overtaking, downgrading NSL to 30 &40 etc. I did smile when some inpatient plonker not understanding my van with its 0-60 in 10 minutes speed was doing its best and being well and truely up my backside so no visability ahead decided to pull out to overtake just as I was passing one of these useless traffic islands. Seeing him mount it in my mirrors did make me smile that day.

There's one near me that I use on the way to work. It's a normal 2 lane road in a 30 going to 3 lane NSL and back again in about half a mile.
This week I got out of the 30 on the bike and opened it up to pass a line of cars, a guy in an M5 thought he would follow my 4r5e. He clearly neither appreciated the return to 30 nor the engine braking on a v-twin. The sound proofing on BMWs must be good though, he clearly didn't hear my engine back off or the popping on the over-run, which is impressive as usually everyone within a 5 mile radius can hear it.

Yes, Sad to say. The only thing I can be sure off when it see an indicator is. Ok that bulb is working.
Wheels is good observations. But then you've learnt
that skill.

I'm not saying don't do it. That would be hypocritical Just be sensible
