Losing revs

Hi newby on the forum. I've got a 99 sv650s and recently it's been losing revs at high speed . The counter will intermittently go to zero then pick up causing the bike to jump and when idle the bike will just stall due to the revs being too low.hope you can help

Re: Losing revs

The bike jumping....loosing revs....is causing the "counter" to indicate the loss of rev....not the other way round. Check spark plugs.....ht leads...maybe loose causing drop in rpm. Plugs could be shot all together. Thats where id start.

No rev counter would indicate lack of signal from the coil, left hand one (rear cylinder). Lift the tank and its just next to the frame. Probably just a bad connector.

If you hadn't said about the battery I'd have said to check the sidestand as that bouncing around on the motorway caused mine to cut out momentarily once or twice.

Sounds like a deeper electrical issue though - would suggest reg/rec but I'll set the QI-style idiot alarm off...
