OMO touring options

Oh Mighty Org

My better half is going to be away with work for 4 weeks during July/August. This means I'm going to find my self with a large amount of freedom time! (Woooo go wild etc....)

I'm thinking of using some of it for some motorbike touring, and as I've been across to France/ Europe twice recently I'm thinking of seeing what's on offer elsewhere. Quite fancy getting across to the IoM for a couple of days as I have never been. Also plan on seeing what else the UK has to offer maybe Wales, as again apart from a few short trips I've never really spent any time touring the UK.

Has anybody done anything similar? Planning of going of a minimum of a week.

Got any particular reccomendations for places to go/stay in the IoM (asides the obvious of ride the roads), or any particular favorite places in the UK.

Any advice greatly received!

You could easily spend a week in Wales, the roads and scenery are top notch.

I am currently touring in Thailand and it is beautiful here, the food is exquisite and this morning I started my day with a Dawn dip in the sea.

The flights here were £1200 for the both of us, the bike hire is £600 and the hotels are peanuts depending on what you are looking for. We are hitting Kao Sok and the rainforest on Tuesday and Phuket Bike Week on Thursday.

Thai culture is lovely and if you are like us and do not want any of the hard drinking foreign holiday types to hang out with, you can make some lovely friends here too.

The weather is lovely, the sea is warm and local cats love a Westerner so that they can steal your breakfast and then curl up in your lap purring themselves to sleep. Bliss... :D

Second Scotland.
Mighty midge issue if you go late summer though.
But the roads and vista's do compensate for that.

This sounds absolutely epic!

However I'm trying to keep the costs down a bit as it's just me sneaking off for motor biking whilst she is away, need to save the money for the joint holiday.

I did consider getting up to Scotland, but I think that would then mean a might have to forgo including the IoM and I'm really keen to get over there! Unless people think it might not be as good as I hope?

Also I hear it's always raining up in Scotland ;)

Any particular favourite routes in Wales Phil?

Pretty much anywhere in Wales is epic :)
I frequent mid wales a lot, but the roads a bit more north by bala and the coast are bloody good too.

I could give you loads of roads to ride and places to visit.

How many good roads do you expect in the IOM? Have you checked the ferry prices?

If you haven't properly 'done' Scotland on a bike yet, you're missing out - hugely.

You could spend a fortnight touring up here and not get bored, nor cover all there is to see.

Do it man, stop faffing about ;)

Trouble is July/August is rainy season (and I know that is also rainy season in the UK but not like they have over there!)

How about 2 days in Essex? Come to TOGMIE2!
