That's about the right amount, I'm paying the same on Friday for the Tiger. The bike's only done 18 000 miles, but it's a powerful bike and I'm not shy with it!

Pete ;)

I wouldn't say £140 is expensive if it lasts 18k that's 0.007p a mile.

Fair price. Sounds like it's chain and sprocket change time for many people this must be the third post I've read about chains ;)

Surely that's 0.7p a mile? (Actually nearly 0.8)

But of a bump, but demon Tweeks are doing a deal on a heavy duty '530' chain and sprocket set

My knowledge of chains stretches (sorry) to '520' is lightweight, racing type chain, '525' is normal and 530' heavy duty. i.e the bigger the number, the longer it lasts.

I'm just wondering if a 530 chain, being wider/bigger is ok? And I'm guessing that unless you're racing you'll see no performance differences.

520, 525 and 530 are not interchangeable - they run on different sprockets. Heavy duty commonly stands for different structure of the chain (for example thicker side plates).

And if you put a 530 chain on with 530 sprockets? Does it 'fit'! SV650K9 no abs if that helps

Re: Which chain and sprocket set?

I'm pretty sure your bike runs 520 chain - Haynes manual should confirm that and also it might be stamped on the chain links of your existing chain. For example my SFV650 is on 520 but Vstrom 650 uses 525 chain. You can check this by measuring thickness of your sprockets as well. All these 500-series chains have 15.88 mm pitch and roller diameter of 10.16 mm, but the width changes: 520 is 6.35 mm, 525 is 7.85 mm and 530 is 9.53 mm.
Going for 9 mm sprockets would make them very heavy therefore it is very unlikely that someone would be selling a conversion kit from 520 to 530. On many bikes there wouldn't be enough clearance to fit wider chain.
