Motorcycle anchoring. Concrete block
 

Hello all,

I'm looking at options for fitting an anchor point to lock the bike to.
Problem I have is that I live in rented accommodation, and only have a tarmac'd driveway.

Even if it was concrete beneath the tarmac, I doubt the landlord would be happy for me to start digging big 'oles in his driveway, and I doubt tarmac would be substantial enough to bolt into.

So it got me thinking...

Making nice hefty block of concrete with a ground anchor cemented in which Ii could sit on my driveway and lock the bike to.

I know it's not going to be as good as concreting into the floor, but it's certainly better than what I'm doing now. :o

Was thinking of getting some sort of handle-less tub, filling it with gravel and chicken wire, and then topping it all up with some cement.

Anyone done anything similar?

The pound shops and garden centres do a big plastic pot.
Grease the inside and chuck the concrete mix in with the anchor hoop held up by threading a long stout stick. When it's dry just up turn and slide it out

Maybe approach the landlord re installing a wall anchor.

Might be a future selling point if you agree to leave it ?

If the scrotes are using four stout people to lift your bike it may only take them five or six to lift your bike AND block so it needs to be heavy enough to need a much bigger crew so it's not worthwhile. Careful where you position it too or it may damage the drive making your landlord grumpy.


Anything you do to make it harder is worthwhile so good luck with it and post some pics and a write up.

I would if I had direct contact with the landlord, but I have to go through a letting agent, who aren't particularly helpful.


That was my thought really. If they want to nick it, they will! Just got to make it as much a hassle as possible.

I'll keep you posted on my concreting!

Could u not dig a hole next to driveway ie in grass or soil and concrete one there.

Sadly not. I'm in North London, and grass is a luxury that only the upper classes can enjoy.

I'm going to build a massive fecking concrete block with the ground anchor in. I'll upload some pics when its ready!

Having mixed about a yard of concrete last night. I have to say it is hard work. I do own a mixer.

So have you the whereabouts to get all the necessary materials to your home. Even buying bagged it is a fair weight to transport in order to build a massive fecking concrete block. Then hand mixing, barrowing etc.

Probably best to prepare where you want it and get a barrow mix delivered.

Thats likely somewhere else as it is marked up for bike parking and the floor is Concrete. The OP's parking is Tarmac/Asphalt.
