Visit Scotland/Trip Ideas

Bit embarrassed to be posting this request for help seeing as I've completely missed the GM
But I've managed to get a long weekend off work next week so was going to see to my Scotland Withdrawal symptoms and pop to Edinburgh for Friday/Friday night to do a bit of Fringe fest stuff... then Scotlands my Oyster.

We were originally set to go to Fort William as the end goal (with a stop in loch lomond area) purely because my buddy has family there but I'm now thinking about...not.

Would anyone be kind enough to offer a few suggestions?

I'm set for finding accomodation thanks to MotoGoLoco :D It's just where to stop/ride!

Cheers

I'd say avoid staying in Fort William its now a bit of a sad place. Oban is a bit better and a nicer place to be. There are plenty of good roads around that area too.

if you're going up that area from Loch Lomond head across the military road up to Arrochar then down to Lochgilphead and then up to Oban.

either that head up toward Tyndrum and across Rannoch Moor round the Kinlochleven Loop and back down to Oban (or stay in the Macdonald Hotel's accommodation on the loop)

I'll do my best to post the different route ideas up later as links

Numbers!! Long time no see!

Dean will sort you out with something good, but in the meantime...

Click https://www.motogoloco.com/map/ click 'Layers' on the left hand menu, then select "Top 20 Submitted Routes" and/or "All Routes".
(You can hide/show the Hotels/B&B's layer to make it easier to view the routes)

That'll give you loads to sift through for starters.

Enjoy!

Legend, cheers Dean :D

I'll do a swerve from Fort William then, I'll just avoid using the term 'hole' in case I offend the rellies :p

That's what my bike said!

Didn't even realise there were routes on there! Just had a bleary eyed look last night.

No probs fella. How long are you looking for ideas for? i.e. up Friday, back Monday kinda thing?

If you're not so ar*ed about hitting Fort Bill now, have you covered much of the Borders / Dumfries & Galloway before...? As awesome as the Highlands are (and they really are), you'd do much worse than spending a long weekend riding the roads around here.

Whilst I can't promise any pertly-bottomed Australians on hand (like we had during the photo shoot), there IS, however:

A little bit of this:

A decent splash of that:

A fair ol' dollop of this (ignore that sexy looking beast on the right):

And, if you're really lucky (and yes, yes we were) you might even get one of these:

If you've not already sorted accommodation in Edinburgh during Festival season, you may be pushing your luck a little - it's mental trying to get a bed up there at this time of year.

Aye, I've friday - Wednesday off work, I've only ever done GM's but one year went up to oban, isle of skye, thirsk and back down. Those pics have wet the appetite! Once I've nailed accom. in edinburgh (you weren't wrong about that being a struggle by the way!) I'm going to get route exploring :D

Ok, so... Thursday night till Wednesday, Sheffield to 'Scotland' and back. You're on.

Leave it with me dude, I've got some very nice ideas! How many of you - and are you happy to stick some miles in if it means getting to see & ride plenty of the good stuff in-between?

Haha you're too kind! Just two, I was going to keep the mileage semi low as a new pillion and apparently I have back jarringly hard suspension...but that could go out of the window somewhat once I set my eyes on nice roads :smt054

Only real firm plan is edinburgh fringe friday and maybe the zoo saturday morning (big kid!), the rest I'm lost for ideas on
