Chain rivet link fitting?
Sup,
How can I install a riveted master link without the use of an expensive rivet gun. Questions 1] Would the slip on link from my previous chain be compatible with the riveted master link? 2] Would be able to rivet the master link with a twister riveter? http://s7g3.scene7.com/is/image/ae23...=ae235/10068_P I'm selling my bike an buying a car as I'm susceptible to chilblains during the winter. So purchasing an expensive gun which will only be used once would be a waste. |
Re: Master link advice?
You've lost me. What are you trying to rivet?

Re: Master link advice?
SH what the OP means can he rivet his chain with that tool or can he use a fish plate quick link from his old chain.
Mate you could use a quick link but it's highly not recommended, it's dangerous to use quick link. No you can't use that tool, when you get the rivet you'll understand. Get a garage to do it for you so it's done properly and safely, a chain flying off could take your leg off. |
Master link advice?
You could use the split link from your existing chain, but it's worn and will reduce the life of the whole set. It isn't recommended to use a split link on anything but low powered machines, that said I know several people that use them on everything.
Fit your new chain and sprockets with a split link, then go to someone suitably equipped to rivet the link, it should only cost a few pounds to get it done right. |

Re: Chain rivet link fitting?
If you're going to do it yourself here's something worth noting. There's 2 types of rivet link and there's 2 types of riveting tool. Check what type of link you have before ordering the tool.

Re: Chain rivet link fitting?
Where are you? there are enough orgers who could rivet a chain if you bought them a pint.
