Gear lever adjustment?
 

Hey guys, For those of you who haven't read my previous posts I picked up my first bike last weekend. An SV650s K9 with full fairing.

The only thing I have had a problem with so far is the gear shifter which is just over an inch lower than the footpeg (the ER6-N I did my lessons and test on had the shifter and the peg almost level with each other)

My question is which set up is normal? I struggled with up changes at the weekend due to the low position of the shifter, I'm sure this is something I will get used to if I have to but I was wondering if there is an easy way to raise the shifter by an inch or so. Up changes mean positioning my foot at a cramp inducing angle and pointing my toes at the road to get under the pedal.

The bike is going back into the dealers on Tuesday to have my delkevic can fitted (they didn't have time to do it when I picked the bike up). Is this a quick job that I can ask them to do for free or does it mean dismantling lots of things?

It's a really quick job. Easiest way is to ask the dealer to do it for you whilst you sit on the bike, that way it will be exactly where you want it.

If you don't want to wait then you can take out the pinch bolt that clamps the little arm to the gear shift shaft, slide the arm off and move to a better position on the splines (corse adjustment) or for fine tuning you can undo the two lock nuts either end of the thin rod that connects the arm to the pedal (one is a left hand thread) and then turn the rod until the pedal is at the right height before tightening the lock nuts again.

Thanks for the advice mate, I'll ask the dealer to do it. I'm not going to be on the bike again till Tuesday so it can wait.

Make sure it isn't too high up when done, as you'll find you keep knocking it into neutral instead of 2nd when you are going up from 1st.

Ahh yeah good point. I did do that a few times on the learner bike and embarrassed myself at a few junctions

all done, only moved it up slightly. No issues changing gear and its easier to shift up to neutral than it was before. Thanks for the help and advice
