Decent rear shock for curvy
I'm after a decent shock for a curvy - for example ohlins, nitron? Anyone got one for sale?
I might be tempted by a decent quality Kwak rear shock to replace whats on there now (which I think is an 04 zx-10r but would need to check - its been on there years and is covered in crap). Basically I want something which is going to fit with minimal hassle as I can't be bothered modifying the battery holder any more than it is now. Cheers, James |
Decent rear shock for curvy
Just to update this thread I don't need one any more. Found a lightly used 09 zx6r shock for £20.

So the shock that was on there was from an 04 zx636 - I got that and the new zx6r shock on eBay - to be honest I've been very lucky with prices each time.
In case anyone searches for this in the future the 09 zx6r shock fits fine however the reservoir on this model kicks out towards the left of the bike when fitted (towards the gear lever side). This means that I had to cut down the front seat mounting point on that side (only a little - it still functions) and cut more away from the undertray. On an sk2 the loom is clipped to the bottom of the front seat mount so that also needs to be rerouted slightly. Note that I already cut down the fuel tank hinge/bracket thing and the base on the battery box when fitting the 636 shock but if not done already I suspect this would have been needed too. The reservoir forces the battery higher but a stock battery will fit if placed on its side and a slight bit of material removed from the base of the front seat (again I had already done this). I haven't ridden it yet (am doing valve clearances at the same time) but I have no reason not to think that it will be a huge improvement over the stock shock (as was the 636 shock) Cheers James Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Oh and you still need the bottom bolt from the kwak shock - the zx6r came with a nice shiny new one

Re: Decent rear shock for curvy
I tried a zx6 shock from around that time and found it to have a very firm spring on it. See how you get on with it but if you have an issue, the spring from your older zx6 shock may fit on and make things more compliant. Check clearance when shock is compressed and extended. I ended up bending the left seat mount out a little for the same reason as you.
