SBS ceramic brake pads. Anyone tried them?

I'm looking at different types of brake pads for my SV650 and lots of people recommended EBC and SBS and upon searching I'm torn between EBC HH and SBS ceramic (swaying more towards SBS ceramic).

They're the same price. I don't think I need the hard braking power of HH, I've heard they eat discs and some people have said that they disintegrated very quickly (obviously not what you want!)

The features of ceramic seem to suit my riding style and needs but I can't find any testimonies from people who have actually used them.

I don't ride too fast or brake too hard but obviously I need to know that my brakes will stop me when I need them in all weather conditions without the pads causing excessive wear to my discs.

Back to the point, any opinions on different types of pads would be much appreciated. I'm looking at eBay prices of under £20 per brake, so £60 all in

I have no experience of the SBS pads, but I did 25,000 miles on the EBC HHs and they are not mega hard braking (the standard Tokico are also rated HH but the EBCs do have a bit more) and the disks had 38,000 miles on them and were still above the minimum thickness. The first set of pads did 20,000 second set were in the bike when it was written off. HTH

Thanks very much Nuts, from what people said it made it sound like the pads lasted about 6,000 and would ruin a disc after about 15,000 so it's good to know that's not the case, must have just been me taking the "heavier disc wear" a liiiiitle bit too far.

How we're they for noise? Because I've heard that HH pads are a lot louder than organic or ceramic but are they actually "noisy"?

They are louder than organics but it's not a particularly loud buzz, pretty much drowned out by the engine, they are no louder than the stock ones. Organics are good for feel but I find they lack stopping power and don't last all that long. If you're not super hard on the brakes I can't see you having major issues with HHs but as I've never used ceramics I would have no idea if they would suit you more. A lot of people use the EBCs and they've been around a while so I'm sure that any issues would have been discovered long ago. If you are running stock pads the EBC HHs are pretty much an upgrade in all regards.

Thanks very much mate. I was going against HHs but what you've said has made me reconsider. I've not decided what to go for but you've given me more to think about.

I might give the ceramics a try just to see how they are, if I don't like them I'll give EBC HH a go

SBS ceramic brake pads. Anyone tried them?

I have an sv650 and fitted sbs ceramic pads along with braided hoses.
To me they lack feel but I'm comparing to my previous brembo shod rsvr.

with your statement of 'i dont ride too fast or brake to hard' your pretty much going to find any pad suitable. here is a FAQ that you might find interesting http://www.dp-brakes.com/Pages/FAQs.html

one problem you might encounter if you dont brake to hard is glazing of the pads, this is when a skin is formed on the top of the pad due to improper use and can lead to reduced braking efficiency.

Re: SBS ceramic brake pads. Anyone tried them?

Thanks for that Bibs, I feel slightly wiser about the subject now.
I would have thought that the constant pad to disc contact would prevent glazing.
My riding is mostly commuting with a few twisty blasts thrown in so I don't feel the need for ultra high performance braking but decent braking from cold to hot would be useful. It seems like HH provides that. There's still part of me that's curious about ceramic though so I don't know whether to be sensible and go for the EBC HH or be adventurous and try SBS ceramic... Decisions decisions

your pads are not in constant contact with the discs (or should not be unless your brakes are seized)

sbs are good pads and i like their HH
