First Spill

Great start to my big bike commutes - came off the bike in the grassmarket today on my way in because of total idiots!

Was riding slowly due to the massive amounts of diesel that seems to coat all of Edinburgh's roads right now - lovely rainbow pattern, horrible lack of traction.

As I was riding some donut on a scooter on the otherside of the road from that Deliveroo company signalled a car to pull out across the road in front of me, lovely big Cherokee Jeep so it was, and doing the only thing I could I hauled both brakes, slid in the diesel and had to abandon bike.

Thankfully cat like ability to land on my feet meant no damage to me, the bike has suffered a little with the crash bung doing it's job. Gear lever is bent but a kindly fella bent it back so I could use it.

Oh and as for the Deliveroo motorcycle/scooter rider and the guy in the Jeep - they ****ed off as soon as they saw I could stand.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement gear lever? This one is working but has obviously been bent back and forth.

Cheers Stinka, I'll have a look tonight. I'm sure it'll be fine until I can get one delivered, just know that once it's been bent back and forth it's that much weaker.

Could also try Saltire in Edinburgh - they're a Suzuki dealer...

Aye, I'd planned to give them a bell about a service on the bike. I'm guessing they'd order in the part - probably cheaper to buy it myself and fit it, doesn't look too difficult to replace.

Worth giving them a call to get a price, and they may well have it in stock.

Good shop, btw. I've been spending money in there all year (CBT, DAS, gear, bikes). As a would-be new biker, I felt that they would look after me, and I'm happy to say that they have. Relaxed vibe, and the coffee machine does a very nice brew for a quid (indoor and covered outdoor seating areas as well). And there's lots of bikes to look at.

Sounds good Nomad, I'll try and give them a bell or nip in when I'm not busy.

At least you are alright. I remember my 1st and only spill, I didn't have cat like agility and the noise my helmet made when i face planted the road still rings in my ears. Sounds like you got off lightly.

Aye it was a lucky escape, thankfully because it was so slippy and I was following a trail of diesel I wasn't going very fast - still didn't save me though.
