fairings not lining up.

Just refitting my lower fairings after fitting my new r&g crash protectors and I can't get the right side bung to centre correctly in the fairing. Looks like the nose cone is pushing the lower down but nothing looks bent or out of place. Is this just normal or should they be tweakable? Didn't help that I had a splitting headache at the time.

Re: fairings not lining up.

Oh yeah, I've done a search but can't find conclusive answers to this. When fittng the above the front engine bolt torque is listed as 40ft lbs and rear at 67.5ft lbs but this feels like it's going to strip the threads or twist the R&G replacement engine bar.

R&g state 40ft lbs for the bungs and even that seems a lot into alloy.

It's 40 Nm

Is that when using R&G then because the suzuki torques states what I put?

Sorry I was just talking about the bung torque. Don't know about the engine bars, I don't have a Haynes anymore

I normally just go by recommended torque specs but there's no way I want to put 67.5 and 40 ft lbs on these bolts. You can feel the middle bar stretch and the two front bolts feel like they are going to strip out the engine block.

Any suggestions?

Re: fairings not lining up.

I can't remember which bolts the R&Gs replace but here is the list of torque settings for the engine bolts. Converting to ftlb the numbers look right. I've used these torque settings to install R&G bungs on both my SVs with no stripped threads. I've taken the bungs off and put them back on at 40Nm 11 times with no issue.

As far as the fairing goes I've found the best order to get it to line up is to clip the lowers in (on the mount in the bikini) then put the R&G bungs on and loosely do them up - this should have the fairing in the right place.
Then put your fairing bolts in loosely and make sure everything still lines up - if it doesn't it's probably the brackets on the radiator - they're easy to accidentally move when you undo them. Just loosen the bracket off, get your fairing aligned and tightened up then carefully do up the radiator bracket now that it is in the correct position.

Yeah I've got a torque download on my phone. It's the front and middle engine bolts. The front ones just don't seem to be tightening up like they are beginning to strip and the centre r&g bar is a thinner stainless bar that feels like it's beginning to twist rather than tighten.

Sorry to be so OCD about this but stripping an alloy thread in the engine is the last thing I want to do.

Put the original bolt back in and torque it up to see what it feels like, so you know what to expect.

Now there's a plan! Think I might do that. I did notice my bolts required very little effort to undo when removing them.
