How low can you go

Hi my girlfriend is looking at sv650 and gladius as her first big bike. Shes a short ****. So we were wondering whats anyone done to lower their bikes and how tall they are. Any recommendations welcome thanks

How short is short? I'm 5'6 with a 27 inch leg and all I've done is fit the Suzuki lowered seat to my sk5

As said it depends on how short her legs are. Give us her leg length to see what we are dealing with....

The Gladius is pretty low anyway and has a riding position that favours the short of leg, so she should try sitting on one to get a feel for it.

For the SV, you can fit the lowered Suzuki seat as suggested or get the standard seat custom re-upholstered to get a bit lower. It is also possible to fit longer rear suspension dog-bones to lower the rear and drop the forks 10-15mm through the yokes to lower the front. If lowering the suspension you will need a custom shortened side stand.

Do a search on here, there are loads of threads about it.

Usual way is to get some foam taken out of the seat, and fit different length dog bones in the suspension. Don't think the Gladius has enough foam to remove any, but then its seat is lower than the sv.

the girlfriend is under 5 feet, she has just completed her mod2 on a lowered er6 - just a shorter spring I think, she made the bike look massive
one of the other considerations was the distance seat to handle bars. a longer reach makes it harder to see over your shoulder . I'm 5 foot 4 and had this issue with an r6 loved it on the track but hated it on the road.
so have we got any sub 5 footers with an sv

Bibio is about 4'3 with heels on and his sv scrapes along the road quite happily

I'm about 5'2 but I've got a short body and long legs for my height, I have to buy 31" inside leg jeans. With my SV I had a custom seat made and that was enough to get my feet nearly flat but I did get whacked in the ribs by the tank all the time.

I've now got a lowered F650GS with a low seat and that's much better for me.

I've ridden a lowered ER6n where they put the kit on the rear shock and compared to the SV and GS I really didn't like it. Narrow bars, clunky gears, uncomfortable seat.

Where are you based in Chelmsford? I ask because I'm in Chelmer Village and kept my lowered seat when I sold my K8. If your girlfriend could get someone to let her sit on an SV then I'd be happy to let her try my seat with it to see if that helps. Mine was sold to a guy in Old Moulsham so it's still close by.

The thread selling my bike will be on here so you can see a pic of it.

This is the most important thing if dropping the front and rear, as I found out to my horror when I bought one that was lowered and didn't realise.

It fell over and had to replace the bar end and mirror!

Luckily the exhaust survived the ordeal unscathed

Found the pics of both my seats. I sold the bike with the red one fitted.

Red is standard. Black is the custom one. Only suitable for women. Several men sat on the bike when that seat was on there and apparently it's shaped in such a way as to turn one's gentleman area into a crumple zone.
