Charging Issues
Hi,
I have a Sv1000 K3. My fault is that anything over 2500rpm and the indicators cut out. Below this they work fine. I have tested the Reg/rec on advice but doesn't seem to be the fault. If i have full beam on or my heated grips on again the indicators work normally. Any advice? Faulty battery? Dead wire? |
Re: Charging Issues
See if you can find any evidence of the cable loom chaffing.
Also pull apart the main Block connector under the tank near the headstock(This is on an SV650 so YMMV) and look for corrosion on the pins and the small sockets.Usually looks like white powder. If present use a small jeweller's or electrical screwdriver with a bit of 500 sand paper wrapped around the end and gently scrape off as much of the corrosion as you can and use some Switch cleaner whilst doing it(£3.99 from Halfrauds). Then once removed blast out with the Switch cleaner and let dry off and push back together.Do this with ALL your block connectors. Electrical connections are an often overlooked part of maintenance and Breakdown companies know they are the cause of over 80% of roadside breakdowns, not mechanical failures. Also check for any bad ground points. |

As would a little on the wires where they enter the socket where corrosion can cause breaks. Thus staving off the effects of corrosion for at least a couple of years when the unit/s should be checked again for defects :) |
